Is there a way to halt the radioactive decay of the insert?

Radium has a half life around 1600 years, so not sure how it's ongoing affect on the insert could be changed without treating the insert and removing some of the radium content or outright replacing with tritium like has been done to many over the years. That said, hard to tell the relationship between the radium and binders used that may have had a more potent affect on deterioration earlier compared to present time.

Sorry, I do not. What alerted me was when I removed the bezel from the crystal retaining ring, the insert actually separated...that is not normal nor fun to experience!

I actually had another roulette wheel to replace it with. The other damaged parts were replaced as well.

As 1Watch mentioned, what is there, is there and will be there for many generations. I am not 100 percent positive, but do believe Rolex did remove Radium or provide bakelite's inserts with Zinc Sulfide Tritium.

Nothing to say against the job, of course - but although the pics are low res, the dial, hands, bezel, bakelite and bracelet look not good.

Try to find this dial type anywhere, just start with the coronet... and a strange surface and printing, appears not even like a gilt dial.
Shape of minute and hour hand incorrect (curved instead of flat), minute hand too short, hands shiny instead of matte - later or aftermarket (pics too bad to say for sure); would also not bid on that mini hand.
Bezel too large (check like it protrudes the case on the crown side, the upper as well as the under side) and with wrong profile.
Insert too much domed, strange layout color, artificially aged surface and unknown font.
Bracelet with wrong cap logo, wrong scroll logo, wrong 80s ends, all shiny like new...

IMO an Asian marriage.

Greetings,
Xeramic

Wow, Xeramic's post is something really unexpected but coming from him I won't bid 10$ on this watch.

Philip, do you have some higher res pictures to share?

Uhhm, yeah..... I did not want to bring it up, but now that it is out there I am in agreement.

Agreed. Immediately sticks out.

Lets read the story of this watch. Pretend the color looks right on the hands and bezel insert.
It has the most worn bezel, I have ever seen. Then the insert, which is notoriously brittle, is one of the finest conditions seen.

Then on the inside there is a rusty date wheel, and a movement that looks like it has been to hell and back. With a mint dial and near mint hands.

That makes no sense. And I cant imagine someone using original mint parts to restore what was otherwise a very rough watch.

I admittedly didn’t study the details before responding and at first glance was interested in the actual work performed on the watch. The coronet is definitely not correct after looking at pics again. I’m guessing Phillip would have scrutinized other aspects if it read anything but sky high on a Geiger. I hope the owner didn’t pay a ransom.

Gorgeous... What? One of the prominent expert in the vintage Rolex world just said that this watch is probably a mix of fake parts and people says it's gorgeous?

I don't know much about Xeramic's credentials with only 14 posts in 11 years on TRF but he sounds knowledgeable....
