Superdome on my 1680
I'm changing things up a bit and had LAWW install a T39 superdome plexi on my 1680. Many years ago, one of my earlier 1680s had a T19 and I liked it quite a bit, so I'm doing that again with a little more dome presence. I still love the top hat plexi, though it's cool to see a different look. It's a warm look, with a little bit of dial distortion at certain angles.

And you get that smooth, cyclopsless surface ala a Sea Dweller.

Cool look, although as a purist I prefer the Top Hat on a 1680.
Who makes that crystal? TrueDome? |

I am not sure of the maker of the crystal. Edvi from LAWW told me it was a new crystal that they "re-profile" so I don't know if it's a Rolex part or an aftermarket plexi.

When I had the superdome installed on my 5513, Edvi told me it was a Rolex service crystal that is reprofiled. Really like it on my 5513 and should the mood change, I have the original T-19, though it will not hold pressure due to age.
As you say, it really does make the dial pop. Enjoy yours in good health! |

I like it. I've had T39s' on my Rolex and Tudor Subs and like them a lot. Helpful hint to ... if you ever have a ratty dial, the big curve of a T39 really helps to mask the flaws.

I much prefer the right one ! Straight and cyclop ! Those that are so rounded fit much better to 5512.3 imho

T39 Superdome was $350 USD.
I love the pictures of the top hat with cyclops and I had one of those for years on this 1680 and others. I'll use the T39 for a few years, just to change it up. Perhaps at next service (not needed for a long time), I'll switch back to a top hat. |

I have a T-19 on my 1680 and prefer the clean look of the dome to the raised edge of the top hat crystal and the cyclops. I know the purists will disagree, but it shows off the dial much better and I love the distortion off-axis. It means I don't have to buy both a 5513 and a 1680!
It looks good OP! I presume it passed a pressure test?

Very High sided version. Sort of a top hat height… then a s/dome !

Incidentally, I read somewhere that back when these were first released, buyers at their ADs had the option of choosing which plexi they wanted on their watch before taking it home. You could choose between keeping the standard top hat or you could have your AD install a T-19 or T-39 for you while you waited. |

Oh, the one that gets no wrist time!
I tend to forget I have one. Out of the vault and tomorrow I'll be showing it off. Thank you P! |

I had a Truedome put on my all white 1680 and it looks great -- gives it a 1665 Great White look.

I've just had a TrueDome D39 on my double red, William Rice (UK) installed it!
Pressure tested and ready for summer. |
