1st Post and a question I can't seem to find an answer too!

First of all, Hello! My name is Joe and I've been a member of this forum for several years but have yet to post here. Not sure why not, it's a great forum with a wealth of information. I have been around and contributed on several other forums for many years as well, and recognize many of the members here. Thought its about time I joined in!

Well, as my wife would say, I've been baaaaaaad! Added the two pieces below this month. Really, really like both these new pieces. I also have the blue dialed 116622 SS/Plat., a Z serial Sea Dweller, a 42mm Exp. II black dial, and a Tudor Black Bay. I also have a A series Zenith Daytona, 18K/SS Black dial which is currently at the spa. The wifey wears a D serial 36mm DJ.

On to my question. On Rolex's website, they state that the dial material of the new GMT II BLNR is "Black Laquer". They also state the dial on the new 18ct. Pepsi as the same, "Black Laquer". Is this unique to these two pieces? Does anyone know if this was a change from the other GMTIIC? I'm only curious, and can't seem to find reference on it anywhere on the net. Thanks all!

Cheers,

Joe

Black Lacquer is the color, not the material. Like Champagne is a color and the dial is not made of champagne either.

you shouldn't read anything into the color except to note that perhaps a Black Enamel color may be more glossy and a Black Matte may be more dull.

Welcome and great collection. Buy your wife something really special and the bad references will cease until you meet or exceed the value of that something special.

Welcome!

How do you find the 116600? Do you find it wears smaller than the blnr? Heavier?

Really nice collection. Great watches all. Welcome to the dark side of the forum. Keep on posting. My favorites of the group are the SD and the YM. Beautiful watches.

I would have to say it does wear a bit different......

Maybe a bit heavier and with a slight "top heaviness" that I don't get or feel from the BLNR. Not saying it's too much or a bad thing, it's just slightly different in how it feels.

I would also say that while SDC4000 appears slightly smaller then the BLNR when viewed straight down on the dial, it certainly looks and feels more substantial then the BLNR from other viewing angles and just due to the added mass / thickness of the head.

I will say that the bezel of the BLNR really makes the watch. It's bold and aggressive like no other Rolex Bezel I've had. Makes the watch "pop" more then the SDC4000. I'm truly a fan of both these watches, and glad I own both. They are my favorites of all the Rolex's I've owned over the past 12 plus years.

I'm a huge SD fan, having owned a 1665, "4" 16600's, "2" Deep Sea Dweller's, and now the SDC4000. The SDC4000 is my favorite of them all so far. I do miss my 1665 though. I still have the 16600, and don't plan to part it with any time soon. The updates to the SDC4000 are just simply fantastic!

Cheers,

Joe
