Explorer 1 for sure. The turquoise OP is a fun watch but I think I would tire of it quickly, whereas the Explorer is timeless. Easy decision.

Also, there is a chance Rolex will create a 41 mm version, so acquiring a 39 mm one while possible may be a good idea.

I could be very wrong, but colors may be a temporary fashion trend

Oyster perpetual

Tough, dependable sports watch. Same movement as in another watch you might have heard of (the Submariner).

Used on Sir Hillary's Mount Everest expedition. Original swimproof oyster case. Used by actual divers.

Explorer

It's nice that Rolex created a new watch and marketed using "Explorer" to sell based on the Everest hype of the time, but again, that's not the watch that went up - at least some of - the mountain.

If you don't have any clasp preference, it's down to which watch you are likely to wear most.

Don't listen to anyone that tells you that you can't wear anything other than a black dial as your daily watch.

These are the same people that will be lamenting how they did not buy any of those "colorful" OPs and will suddenly find them beautiful once they sell for more than a Sub.

To quote Jster, the Explorer is timeless, but is it overdone?

Thank you all! Now I’ll be playing the waiting game to see how long the explorer 1 will take. Hoping by the first of the year

Explorer 1 by a country mile. I like the look of the turquoise color, but not on a watch.
