Icon20 Clasp Noise -- Datejust II

I just purchased a pre-owned Datejust II (41mm) and the clasp makes a "clicking" noise whenever it touches a surface.

I searched for the problem on YouTube and it seems like other people have encountered the same issue.

ANY FIX SUGGESTIONS?

My DJ41 makes a squeaking noise near the clasp whenever I move too. Would also like to know. Thanks

Without being able to see and hear what exactly is going on, in my opinion there will always be some tolerance and "play" between multiple components in the bracelet and clasp unless something is broken, I would assume the clicking you're hearing would be metal to metal contact when the clasp touches something else. Blame tolerance stack up. You don't want a Zero tolerance / friction fit bracelet as there could be other concerns / wear with that type of design.

I've heard of people slightly bending the clasp blades on the 5 digit models to make it tighter but I would not recommend that especially for a 6 digit reference. Maybe bring it to your AD and see if they have a watch maker onsite to look at it and recommend a solution.

It’s just the clasp cover tapping against the bracelet links at its rear edge.

It’s a same on the air king 116900. Someone else made a post about it and I have had two go through my hands and both did it. Clicks when you rest your arm down then clicks again once you lift it up.

Think it’s quite common.

Doesn’t bother me but would be interesting to know if anyone has had this resolved.

What makes you think it requires a fix? Clasps have a little clearance in them so I think this is normal.

Put a bit of clear tape between the back of the clasp and bracelet and see if that silences it

yeah, stop resting your bracelet on surfaces. an added bonus will be that your clasp won't look destroyed within a month

The tape idea might be the most practical solution. Personally I’d just wear and enjoy.
Until you mentioned it, I’d never really thought about it, but I’ve obviously noticed it because I’ve identified the same characteristic on all mine, but it’s not an issue for me at all.

That can usually be remedied by rubbing liquid hand soap on a dry bracelet, making sure you get it into all the cracks and cervices. Then rinsing really good.

I never noticed the click until now after reading this thread...my GMTM2 makes that sound, so hopefully since it didn't bother me before, it wont bother me now. :D

My brand new sub makes the same noise when touching the bottom side of the clasp. Never noticed it until now. Eh. Metal bracelets always make noise. Sometimes they click. Sometimes they rattle. Sometimes they squeak. But they still look fine and thats all that matters.

Seems to have been a common complaint. I imagine the watchmakers here have some ideas on it.

Is a solution really necessary if there really isn’t a problem?
It’s totally normal.
