Aquanaut 5168G

Was stumbling my way around Instagram this morning, having my daily look at watches to motivate me to do some work, and I happened upon a rather nice picture of the 5168G.

I’d previously discounted this watch as at 42,2mm it’s a little big for me, but the picture enticed me onto the Patek website.

I was slightly taken aback by the price, which at £30k felt like very good value. Having since given it some thought, it is actually about what I should have expected it to be, when comparing to the price of an all-gold 5711 for instance. But, I can’t help but compare to the Rolex 116519 LN which I have, and as much as I love the Daytona, the Aquanaut seems like a pretty good deal for a £7k premium.

I think it’s still a 5711 that I’m after, but an Aquanaut would add a nice balance to my collection. Given my OCD nature, to have two Pateks (5990’and 5168), two AP (15450 and Diver), and two Rolex (116600 and 116519) - one metal bracelet and one rubber bracelet each, would be pretty cool.

Anyway...not a particularly interesting post, sorry...but as ever, five minutes of surfing sends me off in a new direction! I’m now motivated to work hard today, but equally now very distracted!!

Too big for my puny wrist but I am in love with the color.

I just got this through my AD and love it! The 5968 is my true PP sport watch to compete with my DSSD and AP Diver for summer wrist time but got a chance to own this as well and super happy with it so far.

It is true stealth wealth, good weight but super thin. The blue dial is amazing IRL. At MSRP I think it’s a good deal, like you said it’s a PM PP and in line with other PM PP.

Absolutely my favorite Aquanaut. The weight of the gold case improves on the insubstantial feel of the 5167a and the blue dial is superb. The size is the only drawback for me, it's right on the precipice of looking too large, but nothing like a Royal Oak 15400/15500.

That shape exacerbates the size so that was my worry, the colours and weight are nice tho.

Adore this watch. My first Patek. The size is bigger than most watches but it’s thinness makes it so wearable. Like also the history to it, 20th anniversary, first in white gold, first blue, first in Jumbo size. Sweet!

Have a feeling they might discontinue the 5167 and just use this sizing as the new standard...

Gorgeous color. I would likely not be able to pass had I been offered one.

When I first saw the images of the new 5168’s I absolutely hated them.

I just thought at the larger size the dial looked empty and bland.

However after seeing both the green and blue in the flesh on friends wrists I couldn’t have been more wrong.

They actually look incredible IMO.

Would love to own one.

I like the size of my 5167R, though I'm sure the 5168's would still wear and look great given the slim width of the case and comfort of the bracelet.

I originally didn’t like the bigger version, but the color is just so nice I could reconsider
