Availability of Rolex 126600 single red in 2020

Hello dear colleagues ,

I know questions about waiting times are not very welcome sometimes but I really couldn't help myself in asking for some direction.

I have been waiting at Wempe in Munich for a month for my 126600. I know a month is basically nothing for a wanted Rolex sport models, although when I "entered" the waiting list the seales assistent joked and said it could be 10 years.!!

Do any of your have any recommendations or comments?
Can it really be 10 years? what is the real estimate waiting time for the model?
I do not really want to apeal to the Grey market.

Thank you very much in advance

P.

Was offered by my local AD but turned it down... No purchase history.

SD43 is not THAT hard to come by, it may be because of the size. Sub covers a lot more audience in terms of wrist size I would assume.

I’d be amazed if it takes more than a year, not a high demand reference.

Mine took around 8 mouths w/ prior history.
A friend of mine also recently acquired his after approximately one year. Our AD claims he only gets a couple SDs a year. I think this number may very w/ the volume, and size of the AD.

There was a time when the SD43 was tough to get. I want to say like 3 months ago and earlier. And by "tough to get" I mean you had to wait 4-5 months, as opposed to something seriously difficult to get.

I think that's just a natural consequence of most people not choosing to wear such a large watch. If Rolex released the Submariner with the red font, oh man- that would exceed demand for just about any other stainless steel model.

I got mine on request from my AD instantaneously when I was buying a Bulgari watch for ,y wife a few weeks ago. The stuff is there IF they want to give it to you. I think this goes for almost all Rolex models while not as much for PP but also attainable If the AD wants to give it to you. The list is useless.

Well should I go to a different AD then? or perhaps set for other model such as the 116610LN... given my wrist size I believe both would fit reasonably well.

But then it comes again to the waiting time for the SUB which I believe could be worse.

Perhaps the problem with my local AD is the language barrier. My German is not excellent. :(

I recommend visiting a Rolex boutique and trying there. Did you did that already?

Like others before me, I seriously doubt you'd have to wait 10 years, 10 months maybe.

Good luck!

I think people make too much of the wrist size issue. I have a 7” wrist and the 43mm SD fit fine. It’s not any bigger than an Omega Seamaster Diver 300M. Those are now 42mm but mine is 41mm and feels/looks similar to the 43mm SD.

I recall reading a post from someone on here from middle America.

They claimed to be a VIP at their AD and it took them 2 years to get an SD43.

Took me about 4 months in NJ, USA.

I don't necessarily mean the 43mm- that's something I think people could get used to rather quickly. I'm referring to the height/thickness of the watch and its weight. For the average person, that's a really, really hefty watch.

I'd echo the poster above's sentiments. Until recently these were rarer than a 116610LN, but less so than the 116500 / 126710 / 116610LV, etc. although there have been several incomings of late.

That said, history also tells us that Rolex produces and releases in batches so, once the recent 126600 arrivals are over, who knows when they'll be readily available again?

As the owner of a 126600 and an 116600LV (amongst others), I really don't find the former too thick - the profile is wearable and much lower than its bigger brother the 126660 (which is a bit too hefty, IMHO).

In term's of the OP's question, I think a bit of relationship building (stopping by, following up, etc.) should see the watch on his wrist fairly quickly. Good luck!

I got my SD43 three weeks from my AD with zero purchase history. I felt fortunate. Confession, i really hit it off with SA. We had lots in common and talked for awhile about our common interest outside of watches. Who knows, perhaps that helped.

You should probably ask those in your market what the wait times are. Many people chiming in saying that there is only a short wait. In my market here it is very difficult to purchase one at retail without an extensive history or a really good relationship.
Best of luck! It's a very cool watch.

They told you 10 year because you’re not German and come across as a tourist. German ADs are already in a worst state than US, they only sell to locals (and kind of rightfully so). I say that as somebody who recently lived in Germany for 3 years. You can forget about anything SS in Munich, and practically all other German based ADs. You’re looking at grey or nothing unless you get really (and I mean REALLY) lucky in Munich. That’s like trying to score SS in Paris.

The funny thing is that she indeed asked if I reside here
then I got my ID and she filled for the list with my name and address.
strange...

She ‘filed’ your name for the list.

Fixed that for you.

6 months waiting time on the ad list with prior history. not sure about it of course but I think it's a reference that might just be discontinued with Baselworld in march...who knows ? we'll see...but once it will, then it will surely be more expensive to get than the prices you see now in grey which really aren't that bad at this moment...

I received the first SD43 to land at my AD in May 17, so I waited less than 2 months since I expressed interest. No previous purchase history, super lucky.

As we all know the situation was very different before Paul Newman's Daytona auction. Back then ADs would let you leave the shop with a fully stickered piece and a bracelet not sized. I also remember turning down a Hulk and Sub ND at the very same AD.

Today since demand is through the roof for most sports steel pieces, I wouldn't expect a call anytime soon for the SD43 unless you are a preferential client with solid purchase history. Today ADs can be picky.

Just want to help you manage your expectations, that's all. Grey prices are not much higher than retail on this reference. Whether you decide to wait or go grey, I wish you the best of luck.

Every AD is different, but the 10 year comment from his AD is not a good sign.
