50 fathoms

I know this is a Rolex forum.... but does anyone have any experience with the 50 fathoms? I was looking at the Barakuda bc it is 40mm and has a rubber strap. Do the boutiques offer discounts? Also, quality/craftsmanship?

Blancpain is an awesome manufacturer and many would argue is a higher end brand than Rolex. 50 fathoms was the first diver on the market so you’ll get those bragging rights as well as a watch you won’t see on every street corner. I say do it. Good luck on discounting at a boutique for most any brand. If you must have a discount try an AD jeweler to have a better chance.

Maybe when they make the standard FF in a normal size and improve quality control/improve the fine details. But till then (and i own a mil-spec and bathyscape) its a NO for for me. There are better brands out there in this price range.

No chance you'll get a discount from a boutique for one of the 40mm limited editions. That said, ADs have the 'kuda as well, and are more apt to discount.

As for impressions, I've tried on the 'kuda in person and I've owned the Milspec for quite some time now. It's a fantastic watch. The finishing (both on the movement and case) and quality/feel of the watch are above what you'd get from a Rolex. The power reserve is amazingly handy if you have it in a watch rotation. The rubber strap (both the sailcloth for the Milspec and the tropical strap that comes with the 'kuda) are incredibly well made and comfortable. This is subjective, but the size and proportions are perfect (it wears like a 38.5mm).

So my one caveat is, if you've never tried on a 40mm FF and you are used to wearing subs, ROs, etc., you will be taken aback by how compact it wears. Don't let that initial impression dissuade you. Give it a little time on the wrist and I'm pretty confident you'll love it.

Wearing my 5015 right now. It wears surprisingly well -- better than some of my smaller diameter watches. And given the width of the bezel, it doesn't read as huge on the wrist. All in all, it spends way more time on my wrist these days than anything else.

Maybe we should start a WRUW picture thread for the legendary Blancpain Fifty Fathom. Or do we already have that here?

My favourite modern watch!
Accurate; versatile on many different straps; super long 120 h power reserve; and I think it looks just awesome!

I’m eyeing a Barakuda but I think it’s just a bit out of reach right now.

I hear that a lot.
On a serious note, I prefer the FF to the YM.

Is that 38mm? I was considering this as my 3rd Blancpain.

It’s the 43 mm in ceramic. It’s a shade bigger than my preference...but worth it for such a beauty!

Have to agree, good people there. Watch geeks.

I’ve strolled in a half dozen times or more while in Naples and yet to buy anything but treated with the utmost respect each time. Never once felt obligated to make a purchase. Love those guys.

I'm wearing mine today. I had to talk myself into this one originally but it's probably my favorite piece (GS Snowflake, Moonwatch, Explorer, Explorer 2, SD4K, Nomos Weitzelt). I swap among the bracelet, black sailcloth, green sailcloth, and ostrich leg from Combat straps pretty often. I picked it up new from an AD at a decent discount along with some freebies.

Beautiful pics. This watch at around 42mm would be unbeatable, imo.

That is just one of the best looking dive watches ever made. Never owned one but always appreciated them!
