New Speedmaster 321
Anybody see the new Speedmaster announced with 321 movement in stainless steel? Could this motivate Rolex in loosening the supply or risk losing a lot of sales and interest over to omega. People who are fed up playing games with ad’s and secondary market will eventually loo elsewhere plus it does look really nice! Could be a Daytona killer

It looks nice, but a sapphire crystal is a deal killer for me on something like this. Needed to be plastic.

I think it's beautiful but almost three times the cost of the current Moonwatch? Yikes!

The price is crazy but so is the grey market price on a Daytona. I am excited about this interpretation from Omega 39.7mm case (40) and especially the ceramic bezel that will hopefully make it to other models. At the end of the day It’s a no for one reason. I don’t buy for investment but to enjoy the watch but it’s a comforting feeling to know if my taste changes I can sell a Rolex and get my money back.
This will be a good pick up second hand for about $6,500 in a year or two. |

Cool piece - fun to have a 321 visible on the back, nice sizing and lugs and bracelet and hands and dial and bezel. Lots of variations to various aspects of the speedmaster over the years, this is a nice combo.
Glad to see words like 'yikes', 'terrible', 'crazy'; maybe it'll be an easy pickup despite Omega likely not pumping out many 321 cals this year. I saw it and texted my gal at the Omega AD minutes later. Excited! |

Wishful thinking. At 13,000 CHF all it will do is increase second hand prices of older speedmasters.

Interesting....will be fun to see where these settle price wise. Would be fun to pick up a pre-loved one under 10k.

They finally make a good looking bracelet. The price tag however is a deal breaker.

i think its great, the price is not far off what i was expecting honestly. from what i read about the production of the 321 movement i think its fine. As far as people complaining about sapphire, come on....poeple been asking Omega to do a 321 Speedy with a DON for years! and you are going to wait and pay all the extra money for the beautiful movement to NOT see it with a display caseback? no way, its gotta have it. i think the whole hesalite/sapphire is overplayed. no one is taking it to space that is on this forum, so go for the superior material. if this gets down to around $12k after discount i think its a winner

Probably also one of the reasons the new 3861 movement is not a column wheel novement. Why take a risk if you are going to have your movement recertified by NASA? (Yes, I know that the original was a column wheel operated chrono too, but again, why take a risk?) |

It’s expensive but I think it’s fairly priced. For the past 20 years (probably more) watch nerds and watchmakers have been waxing poetic about the cal 321, and Omega has actually brought it back AND put it in a steel, non-limited model for us.
The 321 is “superior” not in a technical way, but in an artistic, classical way. Like a Patek chronograph, for example, it uses a column wheel and a lateral clutch. It’s not necessarily the latest tech but it’s a classical beauty and a legendary movement. The high price comes partially from the fact that each watch will be assembled from start to finish by one watchmaker, not mass produced on an assembly line like other Omegas. They’ll only be able to produce an estimated 1000 to 2000 per year, so the scarcity will be real, unlike that other brand. 14,000 USD is definitely a sh*t-ton of money when you’re used to paying 1/3 that for a Speedmaster, but this is a whole different thing. I think it’s worth the price for some collectors, hell, probably A LOT of collectors. I’m not one of those collectors, but I do think the price is justified. I’m happy just knowing that it exists. |
