I'll ask again -- what's the background to this practice?
Why do they do it...? What's the legal standing of this?

I mentioned in my earlier post why they do this or at least their intent. As for legal standing I’m not sure since each county’s warranty laws are different, but I doubt much Rolex cares if it ultimately helps get their watches in more
customer hands and a diverse base. They have deep pockets for sure and it’s really their world in which the AD is playing.

Sucks that anyone would have to wait for these but glad you finally got them.

Absolutely insane. I’ll be leaving with the full set and signing my own name on the card or else they can shove it. Rolex needs to continue to close the doors of all the gray-supporting ADs and watch the books, not implement asinine reqs for customers.

You make it sound like you are doing the AD a favour by purchasing a desirable Rolex from them. You are not! For every person against the practice of holding warranty cards for a year, there is a queue of people that will take that deal to get they watch they want from an AD.

I am not opposed to this if this establishes some level of loyalty with the AD. Based on the number of greys seemingly swooping in and taking most of the stock, I would not be opposed to this.
