It's been polished, and therefore worthless.

Either very well maintained or professionally renovated. There are no mistakes on the cuts, so what's the matter? There are craftsmen who do the polishing so well that it is not worth worrying about. If it was made here, then by a professional.

Today there is much hysteria mainly internet fired by many who have know real idea above polishing. In the real world Rolex cases are designed to be polished at normal routine service only. And as long as its done at correct intervals by the RSC or one of there verified independents there should not be a problem.Your watch is a excellent example of a watch that has been polished correctly. So just forget about all the polish stuff and wear your watch in good health thats far more important.

Any watch that is several years old without scratches has been polished. Just wear a new one for a few weeks and see what happens. If its polished by a pro who cares?

Please find below a simple checklist for future use.

* Scratched up: Either unpolished, or maybe polished in the past and has been worn since.
* Unmarked but brand new: Unpolished.
* Unmarked but pre-owned: Polished.

The watch has been polished. I can tell by the sides of the case. It's NOT a mirrored finished. I can see the swirls.

I've had my SD43 as a daily wearer for 2 years now. I use my fingers to clean the watch along with WristClean from Vareat and my mirror finish on the case is still intact.

Bracelets are harder to tell.

I'm the original owner of this 1996 Coke model. It has never been services or polish since new. I hope this will answer your question.

Personally a clean well polished watch done correctly is better than one all scratched and nicked up that hasn’t been serviced. Just my 2 cents. You’re looks fine just buy it!

No service since 1996? What? I had my 1997 Pepsi T Dial GMT serviced by Rolex NYC 5 years ago just due to seals, lube etc.... get that serviced man!

Personally, I wouldn't buy either in the conditions you mentioned.

A watch that hasn't been polished and doesn't have many scratches except for say, the bottom of the clasp would indicate to me that this watch was well taken care of and not banged around like a punching bag.

When someone says it's polished, to me that says they are hiding something.

I hate to break it to you, but your watch has been polished. The tell-tale sign is those weird chamfers.

Would you buy the watch in picture below this is my own working tool SD was used and sometimes abused for many years underwater as a real working tool watch. This watch has seen more use and scratches than most of today's pampered Rolex watches will see in ten lifetimes. It has been serviced and polished by 3 different RSC world wide, picture taken in Singapore after last service quite a few years ago now. And watch plus movement in perfect health and still is today, and would expect it will be still ticking when my own ticker stops.

Clearly polished. Look at your lower left lug. It’s soft.

Those lugs are awfully thin and not even the same widths. With just a few more polishes, RSC will be charging you for a new service midcase with a service serial number. To answer your question, no, I would never buy your watch.

Afraid you know little about Rolex watches just wonder if the know that the lugs on all Rolex sports watches over the past 50 years ,lugs on crown side have always been slightly thinner. And if lugs were like you put awfully thin why dont the lug spring-bars protrude though the case as they were replaced as part of last Rolex RSC service, or why bracelet is still a tight fit to the case,

With a few more polishes, your springbars will surely protrude. Just look at your photo— you’re almost there! In fact, your top right springbar is already protruding.

Not true its exactly the same as the front its the angle of the picture scan again you no little about Rolex watches. And by your expertise on polishing how many polishes before the spring-bars protrude, one, two, three,as its had 3 services already, if one or two thats still about 10/20 years of wearing by today's pampered watch standards.

That’s a beauty I do the same like you, one of mine no service for two decades. Runs like a champ.

Comes service time I always let the pro’s at the RSC do their magic and get a brand new watch back for less than 1 K

You’re misinformed.

1) RSC are rookies, not “pros.” It’s a proven fact they don’t respect vintage watches.
2) it’s not a “brand new” watch. Original parts are replaced, cases are polished (you’re receiving back a smaller watch each time).
3) it will cost you north of $1k

It seems to me that if somebody had an NOS 5 digit watch, peeled the stickers off and posted pictures on here, people would still swear it had been polished.
