One wait listed watch

Let’s say you own none of the “wait listed” watches and you can put your name on only one of the lists at your AD. What list would you choose to put your name on? Hulk? DaytonaC? BLNR? BLRO? Essentially, what of the current hard to get watches is the one you would want the most?

For me, I would choose either the BLNR or BLRO. I like the GMT complication due to my frequent traveling. I have an Omega Speedmaster to fill the chromo requirement and never dive deep enough that the GMT couldn’t handle it. I guess I’m fairly pragmatic in my choices.

5990.

The hype over Rolex stainless is crazy. I'd look at white gold models instead like the Daytona on Oysterflex or GMT with blue or meteorite dial.

Huge decision, and there are so many factors that play into this. For me, I would pick the 116518 LN. I think the OF, the YG, and the champagne dial is amazing. And I agree with Erik (037), the hype with the SS right now is bonkers.

These are just watches... I wouldn’t get caught up in it.

I don’t know that I would really be caught up in the SS mania either. Since we’re talking about a list at an AD here, that means we’re looking at MSRP. That just is more to my liking since SS is cheaper than TT and I don’t have any particular interest in TT.

I would have to factor in expected wait times. If I get on the Daytona list and they say expect 5-6 years then I’d rather probably get on another list with a more realistic chance of me getting a watch in a reasonable amount of time

For me the Daytona C. I wouldn't say it's my grail watch, but I have the SD4K, and the GMT CHNR, so I would like to complete the SEAL collection...need a chrono for that.

Never heard of a SEAL collection, but I guess that makes sense. I guess I’m essentially thinking that way with the idea that I would like to have a diver, chrono, and GMT.

The only reference out of those 4, arguably “worth” waiting for would be the Daytona.

And....there really aren’t any “lists” anyway.

But you are still on a "list". Now only one. But you still do not have the watch. Being on several increases the odds something may show up one day.

I agree, this is the way it's always been. The others are easily obtainable if you're the client to your AD. I am fortunate to have a D-Blue and BLRO, a Daytona would be nice, if they call cool, if they don't, cool. I'm looking at several other watches right now that are more appealing than Rolex Pam779, IWC Spitfire Chrono, and the new Ed White.

You’re spot on my friend!

Enjoying other references/manufacturers right now is the way to go. There are SO many horological marvels out there to appreciate. If more folks would give them a chance - the watch world would be in a different place.

I had the conversation with a (quite a bit younger) enthusiast - starting out - (he’s engaged to one of my great friends youngest daughters) and she and I have already chatted- she needs some help with a watch (Rolex) as a wedding gift. I saw him the other day to just see what references he’s interested in. I happened to be wearing my white dial ceramic Daytona which of course is on his list (who’s isn’t it) - but was pleasantly surprised when the first three he rattled off were Bluesy, YM, and a Sub Date. And when he said Daytona - he said you’ve gotta have one ridiculous addition!!! And then he said there were a couple of Ulysse Nardins he likes...anyway. I was really happy with the conversation in that things may shift eventually!!!!

While on the topic....

I have grown quite weary (but, I get it), thread after thread, question after question (even have seen live at boutiques and my AD) “you guys have any Daytonas, Pepsi’s, or Hulks”????

I asked one gentleman one day when I was somewhere and he asked for a Pepsi - may inask why you want it? (Just out of curiosity I said) - and he told me straight up - “doesn’t everyone want it”? I said. I don’t. (I turned down the BLRO twice. Just not my thing.

Only other thing I’ll put ‘out there’ is you don’t have to buy everything you get offered from an AD. When an AD ‘offers’ you a watch for purchase (especially now, and whatever the reference) they are trying to make customers happy. If its what you really want, fantastic - if it’s not - it’s not going to help you get what you DO want any quicker. it might actually take LONGER. Just some food for thought.

....I step down from my soap box.

I would ask the AD which watch I could realistically get from them in the shortest time. If I was going on what I would want on the list it would be the Hulk.

Non Rolex, would be my current grail of AP ceramic open work.

Rolex...hmm...white Daytona. I think secondary prices are crazy for what it is, but the hype is deserved for the watch. So good. Or the hypothetical SS ceramic with 116519LN steel dial...that's what I really want. Not a franken swap of the dial, but out of the factory configuration shipped that way.

Black dial 216570. Actually on the “list” at several ADs, so hoping to hear about one in the next few months.

If we are strictly speaking about the watch I want next, it is the Submariner for me. I already have my unicorn and the sub would fit nicely in my rotation.

I haven’t yet worked out a strategy for getting one. Currently focusing on an opportunity to try to get a 5711 which may our may not come off. After that, I will focus on finding a 67-02. Unless I change my mind by then, which is possible!

When you get your 67-02, I need to buy you a beer in exchange for a try-on!!
