OP stated this would be “first” purchase by a friend. In that case probably no relationship with AD, therefore a gray market purchase. So one has to take pricing into consideration. What about a classic 16570 Explorer II?

The easiest “first purchase” through an AD IMO is a Datejust. Datejust can be dressed up or down. My first thought is the Sub but I would be shocked if he was able to obtain this out of the gate. I would also look into an OP since it wears well, the dials pop, etc but I have a feeling this won’t be his first & last one so I would start with a Datejust since their are many options (oyster, jubilee, smooth or fluted bezel) and the price is higher than an OP which might help him obtain his next one :-). Although I think the green or blue dials are difficult to obtain quick. If he goes black or white dial as of today I believe he will have it in under 6 months.

A great watch. ( AK 05 ) I love that it’s different, and you don’t see many on wrist.

If at retail, probably a Explorer 40 or a 124060.
