Incoming 5164r but sadly...

Hey guys,

As a result of the great feedback from this forum, I ended up buying a 5164r.

Anyway Long story short. Left the watch at my bedside table and left for work without wearing the watch as I was late.

The evening I came back, my watch was on the floor :(. I guessed my toddler came into my room and dropped it on the floor.

Can’t really be mad at my cheeky monkey. He means the world to me. Just sad that I haven’t even had time to take proper shots and posted

I really can’t stand the look of the watch now. There’s a dent at the 6 o clock mark now. Any chance that the case can be fixed at service (i.e laser and filings)? I know case replacement would fix the problem but not sure how much would it cost.

As always appreciate the help guys

I would be more worried about movement than the case. I like watches with some character.

. The first cut is the deepest. You’ll move on over time. Watches tell stories, not just time. I’d enjoy it knowing that you got that first one over with

Patek doesn't laser fill, they just polish. Lange laser fills.

Just enjoy the watch with time more scratches will come might be a good idea to keep the watch in a pouch or travel case when you are not wearing it.

I totally understand thats tough- but I would just let it go. I agree with the other posters, watch the movement and love the watch. Remember, it will be your monkey's some day?

Is this true? I was under the understanding they both would with gold and platinum.

And sorry op...but you're right can be fixed on the right hand with welding..I wouldn't try to polish that. I know how it feels, can't blame your kids since you're the one that left it out.

LA Watchworks in Pasadena California will make it look new and not too expensive either. Fast turnaround also.

Ugh that's tough, but things happen. At least think of how when you pass it onto the little one in 20 years you can explain that they put the first dent in your watch lol. Or just get it fixed...

Bought my 5167R from Singapore grey dealer and I ended denting it real badly. They promised me a free polish in 6 months and I sent it in. Came back looking like new. Tried asking how they did it but they wouldn’t tell me. All I know is my watch edge at 3to 5 was like the serrated side of a butter knife but now it’s like new and I can’t see any loss of material. Find the right people and they can do wonders. Good luck.

You'll think of your kid when you see it - if it runs ok, consider it broken in.

I’d just chalk it up to a life mark.. When your little one is older, you’ll look down at your watch and it’ll me a little reminder of them when they were younger.. Enjoy it.

Firstly, congratulations on that beautiful watch! That model is actually the first - and only - Aquanaut that I have seen in real life. They seem to be very scarce.

I guess all I can say is, although I am sorry for your dilemma, don't let it diminish the joy of that beautiful watch. I guess look at it as a "love mark". You would likely have gotten it marked anyway.

Just make sure it didn't damage the mechanics.

All this is easy for me to say, as it's not my watch! Anyway, my comments are made with empathy and best of intentions.

Cheers,
Carl

So sorry to hear this but like others have said mistakes happen so dont lose sleep over it. Now all this crap about the watch being broken in and it adding character to the piece I completely disagree with. I would pay to have her fixed and looking like new because those marks are going to drive you nuts. Let us know how she turns out and congrats on a beautiful watch.

i agree

How does this get fixed as i don't know? If they don't laser weld and the bezel is attached to the case as its not a separate part that means case replacement right? Or getting it polished down pretty significantly.

I don't think the dent is that bad, but what is the remedy if it was a huge bezel dent?

Years ago, I had a beautiful black 911 Porsche. One evening, my girlfriend and I had an amorous encounter that ended up creating a small indentation on the front hood of the car.
Ever time i looked at the indentation, i would smile. No way was i going to fix it.

Battle scars are perfect for the watch. Personalizes better for ownership.

So long as yourself or your loved one who created them.

Congrats on the watch! It actually doesn't look that bad to me, but if it bugs you then send it back to PP.

Once I dropped a Rolex on a marble floor. Pretty bad damage - shattered the crystal, scratched the dial, hands and case, and damaged the movement. So I learned to be careful where to store watches and where I am when putting on wrist or removing.

Patek can also laser fill and I think they could probably restore that case to close to perfect condition. Its worth enquiring with your AD or even contacting the main service centre in Geneva directly.
