New travel box

Picked up a 5167 last week and was given a leather travel box instead of the usual big black box. AD tells me this is the new PP thing with smaller boxes.

Any experienced this?

I just received my 5167 a few weeks ago and received the same standard box that I got with my 5711 three months ago. Can you post any pictures of the travel box?

You should have received both the EC1M (piano black box we’re all familiar with) and the leather travel case.
It’s something Patek introduced relatively recently.

The AD should have given you the usual wooden box in addition to the travel case

sounds very odd - looks like you have been given one of the service travel cases in lieu of the standard presentation box. I would head straight back to your AD to find out whats going on...

Do all new Patek watches come with the travel case? I picked up a 5711R last month but only received the wooden box

This is what I got the other month when picking up my 5167a but I thought my AD was sorting me out by throwing in a travel case!

Email or pick up the phone, and speak with Phil at Rhone – he’ll confirm when the policy took effect, and should be able to assist in rectifying any shortfall you would’ve been due.

You should do the same with HSWA.

It was often the case that customers would request/expect one or been given one as a goodwill gesture, but with the introduction of the policy to not hand over the transportation box, Patek got feedback that customers would prefer to walk out of the store with something to put the new watch in, whilst presumably the presentation box and papers were posted out to the customer’s choice of address.
For that reason, both items are now supplied by default – a rather common sense approach to arrive at a solution.

I don’t think travel case is a given with certainty. I can note the dealer would not give me smaller shipping container and also held back the large outer brown box which irked me

Yes, Patek introduced it very recently and all new watches get a single travel case in addition to the wooden box.

thanks... if its an official policy i may do just that. My AD knows i want a 3 watch travel roll so if he sorts out that gift for me i might let the single travel cases slide even if i am "entitled" to some. If i don't hear on the 3 watch case i will definitely reach out to Rhone.

Is this the soft leather case with the cushion in - if so AD's tend to have those in stock. If its one of the hard cases with the faux wooden sides then those to me are the proper boxes.

Thanks for the info PJ. I got the double travel case recently - I just assumed it was a nice gesture at the time.

i thought the phase de lune single watch case was the one we are talking about. I think there is a wooden side version for the salons and a regular version for AD's. I thought i read there were two versions. The other travel case, with the cushion, is the service case i think.

Which one are we talking about?

I was told beginning of April. I am sure your AD will get you a couple if you ask. I'm going to ask for a 3 watch case with my next purchase

It’s the P541, if I’m not mistaken – https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Patek-Phi...8/263614408107
In lieu of others’ photo, etc, I’ll ask Phil to confirm exactly which is supplied.

I got the wooden box and that above travel case as a free gift with mine, but that was in the good old days when ADs sucked up to us and not the reverse.

I got the usual wooden box and the travel case when I bought a Calatrava last month. It was my first purchase at the AD.

Perhaps with photos it would be easier to relate.
The first one I call the Jewel Box. This is given for all new purchases.
The second I call the Leather Pouch. I understand these are given, at discretion, when a watch is sent for repairs. Alternatively, AD might issue you as a gift.
The third I would call paper boxes. I understand AD would not issue these nowadays.

i have one of those service cases too. Its the service case for watches on straps where as the cushion one is for watches on bracelets. Its really soft leather and i don't dislike it, but the phase de lune case i really strongly prefer.

Thanks Tyler for the info, especially on the phase de lune case.
That is why I like this forum. Getting knowledge where you might not be able to do so from ADs.
