The UK never fails to disappoint! We need to get all these Oligarchs out now, never mind Calais.

There are a number of them for sale on the gray market (including a number still sealed). Once these pieces make their way to the collectors, and they become scarce, we will then get a better idea of their true value. I think in 3 years you will have a different market for this watch, and in 10 years a very different market.

To be honest I initially took all of your 5522 posts as a joke. Then I saw the watch in person and now I'm a true believer.

Would love to see that combi..

Both my AD in Tokyo and Singapore said the next Grand Exhibition is very likely in Singapore next year. It's a good time gap from the 2017 5522a. I reckon it will be hot.

I'm not saying it will, I'm saying I think it will be MSRP or less. I know they only made 600 of them but they still made 600 of them. A lot of Pateks limited edition watches aren't worth much more than retail, some even below that now. Plus this watch has the funny hologram on the back side of it. Unless you actually went to the event or really like that I don't see how it would add to the value. There was a lot of hype behind this watch but now we can see it dying down. There are more of them showing up on eBay everyday with very little interest being not too many watchers. Look at Rolex when they first have a new release. Patek in a year or two will release another great watch that's limited that everybody will want. Don't get me wrong the pilot is a great watch but not at the current marked up price, and it seems the failed auction shows that.

Agree. It is a fantastic watch that does nothing wrong.

It is 42mm which may or may not be desirable depending on the buyer and if I were being super critical I would say it could have had a small seconds at 6 to balance out the dial, though this may have betrayed its pilot watch aesthetic. A small seconds emulating the 5524 date would have been extra nice imho.

All in all I anticipate this watch will be sought after though the current price is a bit hard to accept at this moment.

So here's a question (with a statement ):

Most here think the 5524 with the travel time complication and white gold is a better value than the 600 edition SS 5522A at similar pricing. But which is the better value at MSRP? The 5522A at $21.5k or the 5524 at $47.6k?

For me the 5522, as that was rather severely under-priced, like the D500, and that really led to the hype, more so than the LE and exhibition imho. It's the winning formula now for a SS, and being repeated on the PepC which Rolex have been at pains to tell us is so hard and costly to make, yet they put no premium on it, when £1-2K would have been easily justified and still hugely demanded.

the 5524 is less than a 5164R, the 5522 is more expensive than a 5167A... so the 5524 IMO just based on comparative pricing.

why are those push buttons more ridiculous than the pushers on chronos, like on the 5960s?

The Rolex hype hasn't died on similar hyped models, even when new Basels come around, so there is a high floor for this Pilot too, and it is far above retail, about 30K I would agree is about right, and then only in a real downturn as that is the only sustaining force that will gradually convince greys to lower prices.

usually you are fine with both or dislike both to some degree but every one has their favorite if they like them . Its not usual that one is the best watch ever and the other is the worst. Weird.

They are way more similar than they are different

that auction was a strange one. Im not really into the auction scene but this was by most accounts a shady company and they were selling a lot of currently in production pieces i could get from my AD. I dont think the prices will continue to go up, but i also would not draw too many conclusions from this auction as the entire situation seemed strange.

Antiquorum - 'a shady company'.

All I know is that if I were a grey dealer right now and I have a listing for this piece I would move it fast. Just saying ....

5522A is overpriced for what it is and the market is starting to realize this I think. Why buy it when you can get the Pilots watch for the same money roughly. Plus there are so many on the market. If the watch was truly special owners would keep them and not flip them for the quick profit.

I agree. As a Rolex GMT collector I had been going to bed each night praying to my 5522 that they would release a bi-colored bezel with a Jubilee bracelet and the 5522 answered my prayers.

I think the Pepsi GMT is easily worth 1.5x the price.

I have indeed read the threads and also Antiquorums response to the stolen Lange. Unfortunately as with many of these stories there isn't always an easy answer even if as owners we would expect the piece to be returned to Nicolas without delay. Quill & Pad attempted to put both sides, I have no axe to grind.

I’m not jumping on any bandwagon either but there are lot more issues than one stolen watch. Being aware of them is why people might think “shady”. Those issues also might have something to do with unsold lots. And I see you’ve revised your post as I was responding. I’m adding to my post again, in my opinion watch blogs are worthless.

Louis, you seem to do an awful lot of praying... are you one of them religious nuts?
