Tell me about your Platinum Day Date

Do you have the 36 or the 40 and why? I feel like the 36 (118206) might fly very much under the radar but maybe owners feel a lot of wrist presence? Conversely I feel like the 40 might be too much flash although I do like the 228206 with the blue diagonal motif dial a lot!!!

Get the 40 with a black diamond dial. It is the epitome of elegance, but will still fly under the radar.

I prefer the DD40. The 36 is the classic size but it seems quite dated.

The first picture is of me trying on the DD40 at my AD during the Holiday Party this past week. The second is my 118206 with Glacier Wave dial.

I’m attracted to the DD40 for the upgraded movement, unique dials and ceramic inserts in the President bracelet.

Currently, I own the DD36 and would not sell this particular example for the 40. The 3155 movement is very robust and the dials available to fit the 118206 span a very wide range of tastes. Also have rehaut, fat buckle, laser etched crown so is the latest iteration of the DD36. If I had a 5 digit or older buckle and hollow center links I may feel different or be shopping for one with all the updates.

I’m still a fan of the 36 and if we’re shopping at the AD today for another to add, I would be strongly looking at another 36 with the Cherry dial.

Thanks - another shot on my wrist the 36mm does not look too small. This size has great presence and the bracelet adds to the appearance of a 37-38mm watch.

I've been struggling with this too, but I think I've landed on the DD40 -- part of the allure for me is the bizzaro weight sensation the full plat kit brings, the DD40 feels to deepen that effect for me wearing vs. the current 36 ref.

118206 here, with the same dial. 40mm DD looks bezel-heavy and oddly-proportioned, to me.

It's a shame you can't get a fluted bezel on the platinum DD.

If I could actually afford one, it would be a deal breaker for me.
Then maybe if I could afford it, I'd just have to get used to it.

That one with the ice dial and blued deconstructed romans...DROOL! Imagine if it was fluted!

I swear I've seen one of the top suits from Rolex with a fluted bezeled platinum DD.

i think 36 vs 40 in this case just comes down to dials. they will both fly under the radar because they don't have fluted bezels and will just look like SS to most people

if i were to get one though it would have to have an ice blue dial because imo a big part of the appeal of plat comes from the exclusive dials

The average person will have no idea what either watch is since they are not YG. I prefer the look of the 36mm but you may find it to be too small so try both sizes on.

I own a Day-Date (40mm) Ref. 228206 (November 2015).
Bought with A Ice Bleu Quadrant Motif Bevelled Deconstructed Roman Dial,
which I replaced recently for a Dark Rhodium Stripe Dial.

It is a very heavy watch !!!!

230,893 gram Platinum in the watch, total weight 263 gram.

Because it is so heavy, it is very important that it fits perfect.
I needed a 1/2 link, but Rolex does not make Rolex 1/2 link they make 1 1/2 links. Unfortunately that there are 2 links (€1500 each) in the box doing nothing.

It fits perfect !!!
Very nice watch. Movement 3255 is splendid.

IMHO.. I won’t buy anymore 36 especially in PT950 until rolex add in the ceramic inserts for the president bracelet.

Platinum rolex usually is not your typical impulsive buy.. ppl buy such pieces usually have intention to keep for life. hence the ceramic insert is very important especially so when you take the exceptional weight into consideration.

I own th same watch and I love it. Best dial ever created for the DD36. The domed beZel and Ice blue dial are platinum exclusives that I love.

I went through this sort of decision while purchasing my Daytona. The watch is a beautiful watch. If they had a fluted bezel on it I likely would have bit. The Pt Day Date 40 just wasn't as pretty as the Daytona, imho. If you're set on the Day Date I'd definitely go for the 40. The DD40 and the Daytona felt about the same weight in hand, fwiw.

^^^ The 36mm wave dial in platinum is my favorite, and the 36mm cherry dial in platinum is a close second.
