Having started my collection before the latest hype, it’s easier to say I would never go grey. But those starting out today, it’s more of a reality to go gray if you want anything at all, especially in a timely fashion.
Another question does any of this apply to the two tone Daytona?

I believe the two-tone Daytona has a MSRP of $17,400 and in the secondary market an unwarn model is in the mid $20's. I asked my AD about this model recently and he said in addition to not seeing too many, it would be over retail to get one. This basically applies to any Daytona now.

I was offered one at £15,000 GBP 18 months ago and refused to pay it. Guess who is kicking himself big style!

In November 2020 I paid $17.5k for a 2014 116523 from a reputable online grey dealer including a one-year return policy if the watch turned out not be what was advertised. My last purchase was in 1987 for a 16013 Datejust so not likely to get on any waitlist. As nachopc said, couldn't be happier.

Paid 29K grey (well, traded a Sub ND and a Cermit with no cash)

Looking at my current market prices, no regrets and I have no intention of selling despite being offered higher by grey dealers when I visit them.

Hit the nail on the head. I know watch people who are not re-sellers become re-sellers just cuz the have a extra 10k liquid once they leave the Door of a AD. a lot of people flip cuz they can in a hour. Crazy times man.

I got the white dial Aug 2019 at $26k because I really wanted it. I’m not flipping this watch.

Not really,,
I’m sure many of us have a daily driver and another for weekends and sunny days,,,,
That would count as a unneeded luxury,,,
Each to there own,,,,
if a punter wishes to drop 3-4x over list then good luck and wear in good health,,,

$25k would be a bargain for those without an AD connection and purchase history. I finally met the owner of my local AD and he said someone came in yesterday and spent $168,000 on jewelry and was then offered a Daytona. Hell, even $35,000 is a bargain at that point.

I’ve been looking at these for 6 months, just watching them go up. Finally pulled the trigger with a seller on here, literally yesterday. I wish I did sooner based on the price, but the $ over MSRP is what was holding me up. At the end of the day it’s my dream watch, not because of its rarity, I just love the look. Paying grey $ was the only way I’ll ever own it. (Also in NY market). Doesn’t really matter if it goes up or down cause I’ll never sell it, though it did make me feel good if I did it wouldn’t likely be worth too much less than I spent. Waiting on FedEx tomorrow as I type, gonna be a good day and I regret nothing!

The market for not just SS Daytonas but any Professional Rolex models are only going to go thru the roof over the coming years imo.

Very reasonable price.

I recently shared this story with the owner of a local AD and his response was that $168K was too small of a spend for them to cough up a Daytona at MSRP.

I hope I’m not late on this thread? But the Daytona is one piece I really do love and is just so outstanding compared to other Rolex watches, so the stipulated amount cost for it is really worth it

You are not alone.

Happy with my trusted seller, wear it nearly every day and it's the only watch I've ever wanted. Until now...

Looking to add a Speedy after the first of the year, a 116500LN someday and perhaps a 116503. On the list with my local AD, who's been very friendly.

I smile every time I look at this one because it means a lot. No regrets.

Paid MSRP for a white 116500LN a couple weeks ago, no way I’m flipping. Amazing watch, but so is my new 3861 Moon Watch. 3861 for everyday casual, 116500LN for nice events and occasions. Both are amazing and each have their purpose, I wore the white Panda a couple of times in shorts and flip flops and it just felt weird.

Really. Do tell in what way(s) the Daytona is so outstanding compared to "other Rolex watches." And, which, exactly, Rolex watches.
