Explorer initial impressions

Well, have worn my explorer for a week now.

Ready to give my initial impressions.

It seems to feel smaller than any of my other watches, even the DJ. Could have something to do with the absence of a date and cyclops. But that is not a problem for me.

It is not like any other Rolex I own. To me it just screams stealth. How is that for an oxymoron.

I thought my OQ was subtle as only those who know watches will recognize it. But there is something about the exp that is just so nice. If it were a car, I'd call it a sleeper. Does not look bling, but has so much to it under the hood.

I used to have other watches, non Rolex, for occasions where I would feel uncomfortable wearing a Rolex. Not really so much for fear of getting it stolen, but because I felt it would be inappropriate to wear an expensive looking timepiece in certain social situations.

Well, no more. Feel the Exp could go everywhere with me, and probably will.

First few days, I just kept comparing it to my SS sub date. (Kind of unfair as the sub is my favorite of all 6 Rolexes I own.) Sub has more presence, (thought) the sub was more watch for the money. But then realized, they are just different watches, neither is better.

The explorer's beauty comes from being humble in the Rolex line up. Hard to explain but the watch (to me) comes across as being somewhat demure, reticent, almost coy. I really like that about the watch. I REALLY like that aspect about the explorer. I guess you could say it is less like a "supermodel" and more like "the girl next door" type.

I have owned other Rolex watches so feel that I can be a little more objective on my valuation of this watch. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in a "modest" Rolex.

"Modest" does NOT mean cheap or less of a watch by any means. The Exp is a classic with a lot of history behind it. Just like the sub, the outward changes in appearance have been kept to a minimum making it a timeless classic in my book. With the SEL bracelet and safety lock clasp, it is a solid timepiece.

All in all, I have no regrets in buying this watch.
