116520 Variations

Hi mates,

I ask for your help because I need an information.

I'm always wondering from when the black dial of the 116520 came with "disco balls" sub-counters ? And also from when it came with the "new generation" buckle.

Once for all I would like to know. Thanks !

Disco balls...is that direct from you or did you read that description for sub dials elsewhere?

I think the fat buckle came out 2008-2009 but that’s a guess.....I think the disco was the 70s

Disco balls is unfortunately not from me...it might not be the best description but you understood what I meant. The shiny sub dials.

Many thanks for your help mates.

the 116520 reference had shiny subdials for the entire production i believe, since around 1999/2000-2016 when the 116500LN replaced it.

also, i believe the black dialed zenith 16520 also had shiny subdials. only the white faced 16520 had black subdials. there hasnt been a true panda since pre-zenith models.

Black 16520 did not have shiny subdials, they were more grey with some turning brown/tan known as the patrizzi

I recently learned of “APH” dials on the 116520. So many neo-collectors!

OP
Don’t know if this adds anything but Rolex started using “fat” hands with the D serial on the 116520

That doesn't I mean regarding sub dials but thanks to bring this information in those thread.

Fat Hands : D (2005)

Rehaut : Z (2006)

Current buckle : V (2009)

I am astonished that no one recognized that some sub dials were more shiny than others...

ahah you are so condescending it's distressing....

There are variations for every model...do you think that old collectors don't care about difference between inverted 6 or luminova dial...or red sub and normal a one ?

It’s called a joke. Enjoy your watch in good health.

I sure did and I hate those latest 116520 silvery shiny subdials, they cheapen the look of the watch IMO.

Don't know about disco balls.

The 116520 Daytona introduced solid link bracelets with billet clasps and EZ-link. Don't know what you mean by "new generation" here.

The 116520 was made with 2 different buckles....the later being the style still use now....they switched mid 2000s i believe

Yes, but they would both be considered "new generation", as opposed to the previous "old generation" stamped clasp.

I think the APH and Patrizzi variants are probably the most overrated nonsense I’ve ever seen. The APH dial is an error and it’s annoying to see the gap between the letters, and the Patrizzi dial is literally Rolex admitting that the products they used for the initial run of the 16520 were not up to par, resulting in a changed in colour.
