Amazing, Joe.

Haven't been here for months, nice to see you're still making these miniature marvels.

Always so amazing to see your work... I would not believe the scale in the photos if it weren't for the fingertips.

Oh wow, just looking back at this thread, I've been away/offline for 6 months. The Endurance and Shackleton's achievements on that expedition are beyond comparison. Endurance was I believe the second strongest ship ever built at the time. Crushed like a matchbox model.

Last year I went to see the RGS exhibition of Hurley's photographs, digitally scanned and restored -

"For the first time, the fragile glass plate and celluloid negatives, stored securely at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) for more than 80 years, have been digitised directly from the originals. Now viewed at full definition, the images unlock the remarkable detail captured originally by Hurley in his photographic processing, including interior images of the Endurance and high resolution information of life on the pack ice of the Weddell Sea."

Incredible to see.

Edit - Link to exhibition - http://www.rgs.org/NR/rdonlyres/F482...ooklettext.pdf

The saddest and most heart breaking thing is that after all the men survived the expedition many were killed after in WWI.

Thanks guys!

Thanks for the link on Hurley's exhibit. It's amazing to think after all that happened to those guys, it was all documented in photos and FILM. Few realize that they had a movie camera with them and the loss of Endurance was captured.

Wow Joe I just can't fathom the talent one must have combined with the hands of a skilled surgeon to create those beautiful miniature works of art

I have to just say.

Your stuff is absolutely amazing and borderline unbelievable that human hands could create such masterpieces. It is so small that I am just not sure how it could be done.

You are amazing. I see you are in the US but that is a big place. Can someone find your stuff on display anywhere to see in real life?

Just amazing and love coming to this thread to see what is new. Cheers to you.

Funny you should mention that, I'm working on some stuff for a national museum as we speak. I'll take photos after it's done

USS Arizona, BB39, as she appeared on December 7, 1941. The paint scheme was called Ms1 by the US Navy but modified to 5S dark blue. There is a LOT of conjecture as to whether the reprinting had been completed by Sunday morning, but it's safe to say most of it was done. I'm assuming it was.

The red turret roofs denote the ship was flagship of Battleship Division One.

The model is 1/1800 and mostly scratch built with some 3D printed parts. Cranes, railing, masts etc are all brass. Underwater portion of the hull is basswood, styrene, and putty filler that has been sanded and shaped.

Sadly no seaplanes are depicted. Arizona's aircraft were ashore that morning for maintenance

Joe's Scale Model World

Wow. Awesome as always Joe. Just watched the movie Pearl Harbor. Such a sad and tragic event, especially for the crew of the Arizona.

Latest project:

This little project is a complete departure for me. This model will be encased in blue tinted casting resin to represent the wreck under water. The top of the sea will have a wreck marker buoy.

The sea floor and wreck are finished. The marker buoy and the first pour of resin are underway
