That's a great example of what I try to emphasize the difference between these two models. Contoured lugs definitely makes a huge impact on the quality. of craftsmanship too.

[QUOTE=brucethemanlee;7926228]The new 116500 SS Daytona is same size as prior 116520 SS Daytona
Thanks a lot mate. Thank you so much for this thread as well, it explain why I felt like the 116515 and 116505 suits my wrist while the steel and tt just felt small to me |

The Platona case is larger than the SS. There is a larger "gap" between the pusher and the dial.

Reviving this very informative thread to post a picture from the press release of the ceramic Daytona. On this render, it is clear that both the case and the protruding end link are those of a PM model. Now, it would be interesting to know whether it was a simple mistake from Rolex or whether they initially intended to make the new steel Daytona similar to the platinum one...

I measured both the ss 500c and platinum and they’re identical The dial color can give the illusion of the size difference

Not sure why there is a diffence. Rolex says for the ones with the smaller right lugs they did it for balance with the pushers. I never would have noticed it unless it was pointed out.

The Daytona size difference has nothing to do with the bezels, it’s the right hand lugs.

I didn't read this whole, old thread, but IME the easiest way to see it is the area to the right of the bezel around the crown guards. The case ends where the bezel does on SS but goes beyond it on most (all?) PM.

SS Daytonas have asymetric cases. The right hand lugs are notably thinner than the left. This picture below (and explanation from Rolex) makes it abundantly clear. Its why I don't particularly like them. I cannot unsee the lack of symmetry. All of the PM cases (except the YG on oyster) have completely symmetrical cases (making them 1mm larger in cases size) and the lugs curve down more too. I'll try and find a picture of that aspect.

More pictures.
Top pic, obvious difference in lug size/shape and crown guards. WG on bottom bottom pic shown how much more meat there is on the right hand side of the PM case than the steel. I also suspect the pushers on the larger PM case are slightly further from crown than on SS which also enhances the size difference Pics courtesy of Chardri's great thread here: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=569589

I can tell you over the years I have had many different Daytona models (except the Platinum) and I can certainly concur that the PM is slightly bigger and wears slightly bigger as well. I do not think it is very noticeable to the wearer, but there definitely is a difference between SS and PM cases. Bezels are the same dimensions, as are bracelets. |
