Service recs for mid-60's Calatrava
Inherited watch is running slow. I have no records of any service work performed. Help me identify my options for service (in the US?).
Thanks |

Send it to HSWA in NYC for service. Or if you have a local Patek AD, take it to them to send it to Patek for service.

Seconded. You may need to call the Henri Stern Agency beforehand to let them know you will be stopping by, as the security counter will call up before granting elevator access.

As you watch is over 20 years old, it automatically will go back to Geneva for service. As long as it does not need any parts, a good watchmaker should be able to service this for you. If it needs parts. DON'T let him touch it.

I've always thought myself to be (at the very least) a "good watchmaker", but now I'm questioning my skills |

My watchmaker will tell me what parts are required and Caskers in Germany may have them, if I cannot find parts it’s off to Patek

Aren't a lot of parts changed out in a full service so that the watchmaker should have a parts account with the brand, if factory parts are a must to the customer?

Which leads to another critique: if a "good watchmaker" finds that no parts are required, I would suggest that the service might not be as "good" as it could be. There are always exceptions. Like, if the watch is serviced every 3-5 years religiously so that wear is always kept in check... |

Stern in NYC and it'll take... a while.
Imho your best bet may be to call Albert / Joshua at European Watch Company in Boston as their watchmakers are top-shelf and service PPs all the time

Any movement that needs several parts changed is probably not something you should buy. |

I respectfully disagree with both points
