Moving - Wine shipping?

Hi all.
Need to move a few states away and have a small (but important to me) wine collection. Probably no more than 10 cases.

Any recommendations on a packing/moving/shipping company that could help?

It’s not big money by any means, but more than I’m comfortable risking with the movers/non-climate controlled storage.

Thanks!

Insure the wine, an actual policy over and above your homeowners. Then invest in some really solid shipping materials. 12 bottle Styrofoam shippers. Not any of the pulp-form shippers, you want Styrofoam shippers for their insulating properties and protection. Then be very upfront with whichever mover you decide on about handling and temperature control. You can buy thermometer alarms for a few boxes that will tell you if there has been a temperature extreme passed, positive or negative and you can work a penalty into your moving contract.

That or you can do what I do and mover every bottle yourself in a rented truck!

I just used thewinemover.com and they were awesome. PA to CA, I wasn’t ready to accept the wine so they stored it in San Diego in a 55F warehouse.

Door to door white glove service. Highly recommended and affordable.

Definitely call a wine transportation company.

You could get boxes from wine sellers and drive it yourself but I imagine you have plenty of things to do already.

One reason while we’ll never move. We have about 1,000 bottles of wine here at home. Yes, they’re properly cellared.

I'd be packing those in my own car if possible.

Thank you all.

I’ve moved wine within the state and would be willing to do it myself if I wasn’t already running around with my head cut off. Temp housing, rentals, home purchases…Oh My.

Hiring someone is at the top of my list but when the cost is as much as the wine itself…ugh.

Yup. As usual, the Google told me what I really meant.

Great communication so far and have been accommodating given the smallness of the move.

Thanks again.

Please keep in mind that you will want to let the bottles settle when you get them to their new location. The trip will agitate the wine to the point that it is the equivalent of bottle shock and the wine may take on some not so pleasing aromas and flavors until they fully settle out. The settling period could take as long as a few months.

Didn’t know that. Thank you.

Good thing my bourbon doesn’t have to settle…

Fortunately or unfortunately, I used google search to find someone to help me. Found their https://starkmovers.com/services/long-distance-moving/ link.

I hope your collection of wines will be safe after your move. As well as you. Wish you patience with all your stuff and bureaucracy you might struggle with right now.

Thanks for the well wishes.

Unfortunately, being wine, it was expensive. But I got a few quotes and they were the most reasonable, and have been highly responsive. I also needed someone to handle every aspect of it while I’m away.

A lot of moving companies have climate controlled trucks so that's definitely an option. Beyond that, I'd make sure they have some protocols in place to protect something as delicate as a wine collection. I have a very modest collection that I had moved with a company called Three Movers and they did a good job making sure everything was kept at a reasonable temperture while being well protected. If it helps, they called this "white glove" moving which I guess refers to moving something that could break if not handled correctly.

Look into a company called Three Movers. I've used them before to move my modest collection and some sensitive electronics. No problem with either and I'd definitely used them again. They offer "white glove" moving services for more delicate items and even had climate controlled cargo areas, which was necessary in my case.

In case anyone searches this thread in the future, I thought I’d close the loop here.

Vine Vault was pretty awesome from start to finish. I had a relatively small collection (<10 cases) of VERY reasonably priced wine (cheap) moving to a random small town.

Good, friendly communication throughout despite being what was probably a small deal for them.

Thanks for all the suggestions, especially Ballzzz.

I am happy to hear this went well! I am always hesitant to give referrals even after great experiences, but I am happy it went the same way of my experience, positive! Let me know if you would like to trade a bottle or two, cheers.

We were/are looking to move and I was wondering how I was going to move our wine.
Thanks for bumping this thread. I'll be saving vine vault's info
