Definitely not a mistake IMO. Cut your coat according to your size

If you could have a SS and a TT right now without waiting, which one would you pick? If it's SS, you made the right call to decline. Even more true given the recent volatility in secondary prices.

For the cost of the two tone explorer, I’d seriously consider a datejust. Or any other reference. But I agree, politely decline to get the watch you want.

I turned down a two tone Daytona

And yes I did get what I wanted. Eventually.

Nope. You made the right call. Hold out for SS.

If they were both the same price then maybe some regret is normal but the price difference compared to what your original choice meant you definitely made the right call IMO.

Wait for the tried and true classic look of the SS Exp. It'll happen.

These are available. My AD has had three in the case since their release. It's the SS version which is extremely rare. Wait on the SS if that is what you want.

No. You wanted steel, they offered you an easier, higher profit margin, less desirable Watch. You did the right thing.

You could perhaps have taken it, sold it, and procured your actual perfect price in the aftermarket.

But what a lot of hassle and potential risk!

Unless you are in a desperate hurry then there can be no other conclusion than that you acted in your own best interests.

Only buy what you like.

I have just bought a TT explorer 1, but I want it from launch, I wouldn't have bought a steel version.........buy what YOU want!!!

Wear in good health

Right call to decline something you don't want. I've declined a Daytona previously because I don't like it. Whats the point if it isn't a keeper?

But SS is the way to go with the explorer. If you want TT save up for a Rootbeer or bluesy

Just got the call from my AD about the Rolex Explorer 124270 and had to decline as well. It was the first watch I actually went into the store to discuss. Unfortunately, I determined that it was not the watch for me after seeing it in person and on my wrist. I did express this view in person and via email after talking about it with my SA. I feel gutted to decline the first Rolex I'm offered, but as it's been said in this thread already, I'd rather wait for what I really want. I'm glad I found this forum to vent in.

I will say, I think that this means availability for certain models, even SS sports models, may be loosening up a tad.

The same thing for me, went to the Local AD this weekend and had a feeling I was being offered a DJ, as the SA keep asking, if he called me on a DJ would I take it, I politely declined and expressed I was ok in waiting for my first choice.

I remember those days as well. Those days weren’t that far back and the newcomers to the Rolex World have no clue how easy they were to purchase.
