Platona 116506 will be discontinued soon?
2022 116506 list price does not increase like other Daytonas.
It does not make sense.... Maybe it is going discontinued soon? |

If the list price not increasing is a new metric Rolex is employing to hint at discontinuation, what other past examples do you have of this transpiring? Can you substantiate your hunch?

Last year, there was big speculation that they were going to discontinue the Platona. I heard quite a few people bought on that rumor, expecting to cash in when it did. It didn't happen and people were left holding the "bag".

No one was left "holding the bag", platona prices have doubled in the last year.

True! If they held the "bag" long enough, they'd be golden. I heard a number of people bought, expecting to make money the day after it got discontinued. When it didn't, they sold and bailed out right away. I suspect some didn't have the funds to actually buy the watch and maybe bought on credit? Others probably didn't want to sit on that amount of money, waiting to see what was gonna happen? Then, there were others to did wait and came out ahead.

The only reason, that I can think about for Rolex to keep the same list price of 116506, is the platinum price dropped??

They will never discontinue the Platona because of the Muslim consumer market… Depending on how devout you are, Muslims do not wear gold (or silk for example) as it is forbidden. Therefore this market will always have a need for an extremely high end piece that isn’t gold. So platinum DD and Daytona’s will always exist for this reason.

To OP, I’m sure eventually the anniversary edition will be discontinued. Just like hulk was eventually discontinued and replaced with a new variation. I bet there will always now be some version of platinum Daytona in the product line, margins are just so good. But will it always be the current version? Probably not with refreshes and updates. |

For the past 3 years there's been speculation that the Platona is going to be discontinued soon.
Rolex usually discontinues things when they increase pricing, or when they launch their slate of new novelties for the year (later this March). I doubt they'll discontinue the Platona, but who knows. Only one guy knows. |

Platinum cost is less than gold. That could be another reason why its maintained as it is.
Its already an astronomical price - Rolex doesnt need to raise the price on it as only the top percentile can afford it as it is. |

Platinum does cost less but its is a lot harder to work with which intakes more costs to manufacturing. My understanding is it will be discontinued this year and dial changes which everyone has been processing to the baguette dial will cease |

Happy New Year to you all!!!
I am turning 50 in January and asked for a Platinum Daytona with diamonds. You think I will get one. I hope it's not discontinued before I get one. |

This has replaced the LVC (Hulk) social media need to speculate when it will be discontinued. Nothing more and no tea leaves.

It's been out so long that it's a very likely candidate for being discontinued.
But a new variant will likely take its place. The old baguette one will be the hot one to have though. |

I doubt that when it's discontinued a new variant will take its place. This was meant for the 50th anniversary of the Daytona, originally.
Also, it's been rumored to be discontinued every year for the last 4 years. There are only two people at Rolex who know when something will be discontinued (because it's their decision). Just wait until March, see when they drop their new novelties, and you'll know what's killed because it'll be gone from their website. Until then, it's just rumors fueling speculative prices on Chrono24. |

It is, indeed. Just like the DD40, it's not labeled a 50th anniversary edition. |
