Got the call, but kindly declined

I've been waiting for the call on a 36mm SS Explorer. Today I was offered the TT but kindly declined since I hadn't even considered it as an option previously.

Now that i've had a chance to take a closer look at photos posted on TRF along with some YT videos, i'm second guessing myself. Though it seems a bit difficult to depict the watch from photos and videos (than in the flesh), it looks like a beautiful piece-- msrp @10.8k is a bit more than I was willing to spend, did I make a mistake with declining the offer?

Here we go now with all the threads “Did I make a mistake to decline…”

If you don’t love it, don’t buy - simple as that to me.

I don't really like that watch at all, I think you made the right call, specially if the watch wasn't what you expected.

It's only a mistake if you felt like you made a mistake. Watches are largely personal opinions. If it speaks to you, grab it. If it is nice, but not something you think you are okay to wear on a daily basis...then maybe skip it.

Did you make it known that you are looking for the SS version and did you say why you dislike the TT variation?

You made the right choice unless you’re female, if so it would make a nice datejust replacement in TT at 36

To be fair it just wasn't on my radar or something I had even considered before committing to the SS like I had mentioned. Maybe I should have requested to come in and see it in person then decide. With me passing, i'm sure it'll end up in the hands of someone that has been wanting that particular reference.

Should you have gone in and looked at it? Maybe.

But SS is the way to go with the explorer. If you want TT save up for a Rootbeer or bluesy

Big mistake! You should’ve bought it even if you don’t like it.

Calm down. He just said he's having 2nd thoughts after looking at pics. Don't bite the guy's head off. This is but just a forum, not a criminal court.

I think you go with your gut… if the TT wasn’t on your wishlist, you pass. Very simple.

X2.

It is an excellent design and I would have checked it out very closely at 40mm.

$3950 price difference. Could be a nice watch to put on leather strap I’d the gold is too much for you today. Then in 10 or 15 years you can put the original bracelet back on.

I think you did the right thing. Hold out for what you want. Especially, if it’s something more than what you’re budgeted for.

You know you didn't want it because you didn't buy it. 10.8K for something you didn't want would have been a mistake.

Exactly

Back in the day these type of decisions were a non factor. The other reference would have been in the display case

Buy the watch you want not what the AD shoves under your nose, unless of course you are easily swayed, have unlimited funds, or just can’t say no.

Seriously, the only person who can answer your dilemma is you.

I think you're fine, you didn't want it until the thought of owning it was there. Get what you want, not what you think you may want.

Lol, why would anyone spend 10k for a watch they don’t want?? Gotta build that relationship to get box and paper, bro… #badadvice.

To me you made no mistake because it wasn't in your plans and the $$$ was more than your budget for the watch, would move on.
