I think we began to see cobbled things...fake cases and the like mixed with genuine bezels and dials and all kinds of things in the late 70's as Rolex gained more and more momentum and the onslaught of fakery from Asia came into play. This confused the ability to spot counterfeits. If you could walk into a dealer and buy a bezel...you could put it on anything...or a dial...or whatever. They tightened the belt...and over time it's gotten tighter and tighter. |
