How are you feeling, better I hope? Ouch! Scary images. I expect you've visualized how your skull might have looked. Helmet did its job absorbing the impact and preventing 'rotation'. What make of helmet? |

The bruised and battered part is on the mend quite nicely but this bout with some pretty nasty vertigo is the one that is really tough. I must have had my bell really rung quite hard but no headaches or blurred or double vision. Cracked ribs and collar bone really not bothering me to bad but when i go to lay down it hurts.....

Nice new helmet you've got there Bring it out gives you something to focus on and look forward to as you fully recover and are able to get back out there.

Had the stitches and staples removed from my coconut yesterday morning and boy did that sting in doing so..! I am on the mend with sore ribs, and collarbone plus the vertigo is starting to ease up "SOME". They told me I need tons of rest and proper nutrition and NO BEER...!

I have also TRASHED my Garmin Edge 1030 as screen is split and will not even turn on. No idea I hit that hard to have done that. I see Garmin has just released a new Garmin Edge 1030 Plus that looks very tempting... Anyone yet with one here..?

Just saw this. I'm close to your age and have had my share of cycling injuries. Broken leg in 2004, deeply lacerated calf in 2015, near heat stroke in 2016, separated shoulder last summer. Each time I start my comeback as soon as I can as I am sure you are already plotting.
PS: I have not ridden my road bike in over three years, purely on my mountainbike now. I am thinking of adding a gravel bike, that's become the big thing around where I live these days. I am too afraid of dodging cars anymore to enjoy riding on the road. |

After my TBI in 2011, I didn't have vertigo, but I did lose a significant amount of balance. It never came back, and I had to quit riding two-wheeled motorcycles in favor of a Harley Trike. I have been able to retrain my brain using muscle memory to ski and ride mountain bike well enough to work as a ski and bike patroller at a local ski resort, however. You'll probably have no long term deficits, but if you do, take your time, let your brain heal, and then adapt if necessary.

Hope you make a quick recovery!
About 8 years ago a coworker who rides road bikes hit a rock and went over her handlebars. Lost most of her front teeth, broken jaw, several facial surgeries. She was back at work in a month with her jaw wired shut and had the greatest outlook. Once healed, she was right back on her bike! |

Getting closer and closer until I feel good enough to get back out on the road on my bike. My new toys came in the other day and I am wowed by the quality of this KASK Helmet out of Italy .. The new Garmin Edge 1030+ not much of a upgrade over my 1030 but has the entire world maps free for you and thats a first for Garmin...ONE OF THESE DAYS....!

Sunday AM Update
Getting better by the day here and seeing signs of the vertigo dissipating . This am with a pair of tennis shoes on I got on a bike "FAT TIRE" with flat pedals and for the first time rode a bike with great hesitation. Seemed stable and stiff from just the beating I took but felt ok.. No this is not a road bike at 20+ MPH but a step in the right direction...

17 Days Ago today post crash 1st RIDE
This afternoon I drummed up enough inner courage to go out and give it a try on my "ROAD BIKE" in cleats and in the drops.. I went out for about 16 miles with a average speed close to 18MPH but was totally elated that i could ride. yes very very sore and short of breath from the ribs and collar bone damage but made it.. HAPPY CAMPER HERE
