Is that your unit flag on the front license plate?
5th Marine Division. I was with Hq/1/13, Camp Pendleton and K/4/13 and W/1/13 in Vietnam. Fifth Division was reactivated to serve as reinforcements for the 1st and 3rd Divisions. I was attached to both at one time or another.

I'm getting the hang of it. I need to take a drive up into the mountains soon.

I use the paddles mostly to downshift when going downhill, which saves both gas & brakes.

I'm getting used to the paddles.

It's a whole new concept in gear-shifting, not just another method--stick vs. paddles.

It's like a mutual effort on the part of the driver and the computer.

The computer can over-ride me and I can over-ride the computer.

When I'm around town, I use the low gears to take off and turn corners and the higher gears to save fuel and shift just enough to keep the car from lugging.

If I take off in the Sport mode, then the transmission tends to stay in a lower gear than I prefer. If I need more torque, I can shift, but only as the computer allows, but the main thing it does get done without over-revving. In the Drive-mode, you're stuck with whatever the computer chooses. I don't like that.

Having ten gears is a whole different mindset than having six.

I don't drive around with the gear ratios in my head, but I have a feel for which gear will get the job done in the smoothest way possible.

While on a six-speed, most often down-shifting to second usually works best for taking corners in town. With the automatic in Sport mode, third gear will more than get the job done and when I'm around the corner, I click the paddle three times and get the computer to get into sixth gear when it deems it ideal and then I click up to seventh or eighth as the situation determines, as I cruse down the boulevard.

This gives me the control I desire and is the primary reason I always liked manuals over automatics.

The whole stick/clutch/brake dance is a joy unto itself, but the mission is to keep the transmission in the the gear that fits the situation as I assess it and the paddles let me do that well enough and doing the shifting myself keeps me engaged in driving as I have always enjoyed.

Alright, my man!

Honda and Rolex make a great combination in my book, too.
