Patek 5164a trade to newer.

Guys is there ever a reason to trade a clean looking 2016 5164a to a newer 2022-2023 5164a? Any advantages?

Even trade and extend the warranty, why not.

I’m very keen on getting a 5164a as well from the secondary market and pondering on which “year” I shd get, knowing older = cheaper, newer = more expensive. However I believe it’s relative ie newer will have higher value as well.

OP: are u thinking of switching to newer coz of new movement and new clasp?

So much for 'a great watch will last more than your life time'.

The newer 5164 has the 26-330sc movement with hacking seconds, and a newer design clasp.

Haha it’s a marketing gimmick.. how many really pass down their watches? I believe when my kids grow old, even if I want to pass down, they may not like it too.. designs get outdated

Well to be honest, I have a 2018 model. Someone offered a 2023 if I add around $20k.
Only reason I’m even thinking about it is this is a watch I won’t sell, probably till my newborn grows old. And getting a brand new watch to make memories with instead of a used one with its scratches already (minor) would make it more sentimental. Lol

Movement would be meh, just hacking is not a game changer. Also clasp some say newer is a bit more un comfy.

Never going to be an even trade, my 2018 for his 2022 with newer movement brand new. So I have to add around 17k usd.
Got my mine grey so it had some flaws, was just thinking if a brand new watch would mean a lot more to me than a used one.

No way would I add $17k and make that trade.

Not even remotely worth it.

Rather than spending $17,000-$20,000 for a new one, send it to Zimmerman watch repair and have them laser weld, polish it to like new condition for probably $2000

I’m sorry OP but no way this is something I would ever do that’s crazy - just save the money and go on a trip with your family - definitely more memorable than the same watch just slightly newer

Makes no sense
