Logical decision between Patek & Lange world time
Considering the next piece between Patek, more specifically the 5935a vs Lange 136.029.
Both are time zone world time watches. One is in steel and the other is in white gold. One has a chrono function and the other has the date etc…. But what other factors should I consider that would lead me to pick one over the other? Any thoughts and suggestions? Thanks.

Consider that you’re on the PP forum, lol, but objectively easy call for me. This history, style, workmanship, *everything* would lead me to PP in this, and almost every other instance.

Patek is salmon, Chrono, sportier, amazing center pattern, very accurate, and auto. All pluses for me. Only draw back is the city names are small, hard to see for me. I have a 5930.

I know this might sound odd to some but I find all ALS pieces so clinical and so perfect aesthetically they are soulless.
They are everything you’d expect German engineering to be which if you like that, great. But I like a bit of flare, character, daring etc. I’d always pick Patek, especially when it comes to a world time. |

The Patek's time zones will only be accurate for 1/2 the year, so I presume you're buying for style rather than function. If so, the only thing I can't get past on the Patek is the too-small minutes register. On the other hand, the Timezone's way-too-small seconds subdial is a design miss IMO.

I used to like Lange, and still own an ALS up/down, but given troubled experiences with customer service with Richemont brands, I won’t consider buying a new Lange. That’s before comparing it to Patek, and the superlative service experiences I have had with Patek/Henri Stern.
Focusing more on the watch itself, rather than the customer service experience, I still go 100% with the Patek. All Langes have the same case design (boring and lazy) and their references are often too big and too thick. By contrast, this Patek is an innovative take on an icon, and in steel with a chronograph. I wish the dial was not stamped, but would still choose this over the ALS. |

I have both. Both are awesome. Visually, especially with a different strap, the Lange is really intriguing and super under appreciated. But I’m probably a Patek guy at heart.

The Lange has a huge flaw in my opinion, and that is the fact that the date is linked to the home time (and not to the local time). And this makes absolutely no sense to me…

I owned Lange befire and sold it, like others, I would go for PP. Technically Lange is not a WT.

Logical decision between Patek & Lange world time
Quote:
Logic won’t matter if you dislike the aesthetics. You skipped the most important part - do you like rose gilt or black dials? Date on Lange and dual analog dials are perhaps easier to read the distant TZ and consider the date there (compared to local TZ). If you are familiar with, and like, the Patek TZ chapter ring then that’s your better choice. PP is auto, Lange manual - does it matter to you? Must be a dozen more differences inside the case.
