Pls help authenticate my 1st ONLINE Rolex Purchase

I know it's stupid to ask after - but I got worried when I found out this morning that rolex only produced white/ivory pyramid face - and the watch i'm showing above has a black pyramid face. your thoughts please?

thanks in advance

seller said the ff:

This is my Mens Rolex two tone oyster perpetual datejust- Watch is like new not a mark!

Have all appraisal- Orig box- Hang tag etc.

Watch was over $10,000.00 New

Model #R16233**B63203 36 mm YR 1999-2000

If local? I welcome you to come and see in person- Or will meet at any local Rolex Dlr here in town.

Again this is a all %100 Rolex all factory orig! NONE NICER!

Thanks everyone!~

Hi ,Welcome .
What is the serial number on the watch , you should find it on the certificate , if not if you take of the bracelet it should be between the 6'oclock lugs .

1) I've never seen or heard of a black pyramid face.
2) circa 1999-2000 TT DateJust did NOT sell for over $10,000 new!
2) seller says "like new not a mark". Doesn't look "like new" to me.
sellers statements are suspect...

I'm not an expert, but was a TT like this ever offered at $10,000 as claimed? Are they even that expensive now?

They are not GoldenBear. A new one right now, TT DJ, will run you $8750.00.

Some of the claims are more puffery than fact.

If you can't see it in person, I'd suggest you need more pictures from the seller to have the experts around here sort it out for you.

It looks real; the only way to know for sure is to have Rolex authenticate it. Afterall we can't even see the movement. Now a new one might go for around 10k retail, I don't think that model ten years ago went for 10k. I bet you can find that model, brand new, from an online retailer for about $6500.

Black pyramid dials are relatively rare, but real.

Buying online from an unknown seller is very very risky. At this point you should send the watch to a RSC for service. It will be good for both the watch, and your piece of mind.

Knowing the exact original retail value of the piece you are buying helps a great deal, and understanding the current market helps even more. I hope you got a good deal on the genuine article.

Good luck! :)

You are correct. Now is not the best time to ask.

Sorry, your pictures are not clear enough for anyone to make a sure call. Try taking some better pics without the angles. Straight on to the dial, crown, bracelet etc.

Like new? Sure does not look like new, however that is one of those descriptive but not very definite terms. This watch looks far from what I would dare call like new in your pics.

The bezel appears to be very dirty or discolored. Gold does not discolor. The crown and the cyclops do not look quite right. All of this could also be your pics.

Take some better pics and verify the serial number actually on the watch.

Hope this turns out good for you and you bought this watch at a very good price.

Mark

Best way to make sure as the guys above have stated, go to an AD and have it checked out.

We can be close here if you can supply us with the serial number, clasp number and the ref number on the end pieces.

Also that watch would have retailed for around half that amount back in the early 90's.

Dave.

hi, it's currently in transit to me. I bought it but seller only ships to usa. and i'm currently not in the country (job related) so i shipped it at home in california and my sister will bring it to me, so i will see this watch in July. I paid with paypal so I'mnot too worried (or that's what I tell myself lol) I have 60 days to file for a dispute should this be not as described. I know the new watch is around $6-7K. I bought this for $2100. I asked the seller where this black pyramid face came from and he said it's from ROLEX.

seller is merbear421

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=170337621115

Thanks in advance experts!

Again, who is the seller?

Also, I wouldn't move the watch around like that. May cause some headaches down the road.

I was thinking about the other way around. If you have problems with the watch...you can't ship it back into the states.

Customs issue. Your sister should authenticate the watch IMMEDIATELY in california. You waiting until July for a first move is a bad idea.

Look on the band buckle for a clasp code for a manufacture date code. Go to here to see what I mean scroll down a bit. You should have maybe a "Z" "W" or maybe an "X" followed by one or two numbers for the month. You may need a magnifier to see it good.
