Tudor Submariner Blue dial

Not affiliated with the seller here but quite interesting for the Aussie members here.

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/385034951896

The dial is hard to make out given the hazy plexi but looks like a 7016?

Swiss only dial which would be rare - 1967/1968 model?

A bit banged up but could polish out okay.

Be careful yes , think it's 68 perhaps and 69/70 are Swiss (67 are small crown white writing non-snowflake)....but most swiss are quite dark hour markers with a variable brown/orange and a bit pock marked dial a lot of the time. That plexi needs cleaning up for sure.....

Could just be distortion from the Plexi scratches but the Shield/Tudor and Oyster Prince look damaged to me.

I've messaged and spoken to the seller, very sketchy, wants to take it off of ebay and have money deposited directly etc. If I was local I might try chasing it up, but too many alarm bells. He also hasn't produced another photo of the watch - so it's difficult to clock if he even has it in hand.

Just confirmed the serial - 62XXXX which dates this to 1968 which also matches the SWISS only dial. The insert looks original too. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

The gamble is on the condition of the dial given the crystal is all scratched up. Also looks like an original 7206 bracelet.

Blows my mind why anyone would sell a watch this way. 3 pictures? Really?

At the very least, spend 5 minutes with toothpaste and some elbow grease to clear up that crystal.

Just checked what I've had pass through my hands over the years and checked all 7 on C24..... and1968 SRL (and 62**** is early), have been/are ALL Small Rose 7928 style dials, not Snowflakes.

A few sources suggest the first batch came out in 1968 with just the SWISS only dial. Here's a couple.

In 1968, Tudor created what is probably its most famous diving watch, the ref. 7016 Submariner with unique square markers and ‘Snowflake’ hands powered by reliable ETA 2483 movements.

https://therake.com/stories/the-hist...r-submariners/

Snowflake “SWISS” Only
The first “Snowflakes” are what collectors refer to as “SWISS only,” due to “SWISS” being the lone print in between the hash marks. “SWISS only” can be found with black and on rarer occasions, blue dials.

Approx. serial range: While most examples are found from 74xxxx to 78xxxx, there have been a few to surface in early 1968 (~62xxxx).

Gamble away (I know I shouldn't encourage, but am curious), would love to know the outcome. If wrong, and the price is low, perhaps parts are salvageable.

Be really careful, the seller has no feedback as a seller, has only made purchases and half of those purchases are from the same account. Those sellers left feedback but the person selling this watch has not left feedback for any one of those purchases.

Have been in contact with the seller as well.
He promised 2 days ago to send additional pictures... Nothing happened.

For me a red flag and I will pass on bidding. Furthermore, he spells more strange english than me

Absolutely this. Don't even consider it, when there are so many trusted dealers right here on the forum. It's good that you've passed.

Have a word with Linesiders or Harry in Montreal. They'll point you in the right direction.

I have some text messages from the guy that are interesting - as in if I were to meet him to pick the watch up I would bring two of my biggest friends.

That faded line on the insert between 50 and 05 certainly isn't natural wear. Looks like an effort at artificial fading by application of friction.

Not sure. The blue insert has a rough / matte surface, far more rough than a traditional black, glossy, insert. They are far more prone to show rubbing than other inserts. Rubbing between 40 min and 5 min is also much more prevalent due to more likely to run into a sleeve ; ) . From what I can see, does not look artificial.

If bidding make sure you pay from a credit card. Seller is indicating he is making an off eBay sale tonight - but auction is still up.

Interesting insight, Linesiders.

Horse sense tells me that the high crystal edge would protect the insert from rubbing exclusively in the center of the insert like that.

Inconclusive, as with many things in vintage Rolex/Tudor.

Apologies for the delay - I have been away but whoever the winner of the auction is - if you are a member here, do not pay or proceed as the watch was sold prior to close of auction.

I will update in due course.

There was one bid retraction, so maybe this thread has saved, at least, one potential bidder/buyer...

Maybe the seller was hoping to get more $$ on the auction and it didn't happen, also there are the huge ebay fees...

He was offering it to multiple people for 5k if picked up same day. Very very strange guy. Maybe trying to sell it multiple times.
