The history of IWC issuing British RAF watches can be traced back to 1949. One of the most important watches in military history, the Mark XI was manufactured to withstand against the magnetic fields of planes. A robust and practical watch built for combat, it ran on the famous IWC Cal 89 manual winding movement. The hardiness and accuracy of the IWC Mark XI was pivotal as it was a requirement specified by the British RAF in order for these watches to be commissioned. Though the Mark XI has since been discontinued, it holds a significant place in military history as one of the more utilised military timepieces from a renowned brand with a storied history.
