I'm Back

Had to change my user name from Shore Guy to ShoreGuy because of a new iPad, now with camera, with a different email address making it impossible at least for me to retain my old forum name.

Let me enter this as my first post with the revised name.

There is frequent reference in the Forum to white gold being used for the hands, batons, as well as numerals (eg 369 on Exp). Has Rolex ever stated that white gold is what is being used? Are there any metallurgists in the forum who can comment on whether there are alloys which would work as well or better and be more cost effective, ie cheaper?

Rolex advertises this - "...Characterised by hour markers fashioned from 18 ct gold to prevent tarnishing,..."

All Rolexes are made with 18k gold hands. Yellow, white or everose. The only hands that are not are the chronograph second hand on a Daytona and on the Yacht-Master II. They are made of beryllium. 18k is too soft and bends when that hand is being zeroed out.

Rolex alloys their white gold with palladium to stabilize the color and so that it doesn't ever need to be rhodium plated. They alloy their everose gold with platinum to stabilize the pink color.

You learn something new every day! Who would have thought the force of zeroing could bend them!

I had a similar issue, except someone hacked my account and was pretending to be me,(kjp1). My account was "banned due to probable hacking". I e-mailed the Mods several times and had another forum member reach out but got no answer, so eventually I gave up and re-registered.
I HATE scammers!

I work at an AD and learned it at a Rolex training seminar. It was new information to me as well!
