Authenticity Check?
...Probably not the post you're expecting:
I noticed something kind of interesting today, and wanted to share with the forum. Stuck at home with Good Friday off from work (extremely grateful to still be employed), I got bored and decided to take a bunch of pics of my watch from different angles/vantage points...Zoomed in on a particularly crisp photo of the clasp engravings, and noticed two dots (one under the "O" and one under the "X") on the tiny "Rolex S.A." engraving. I assumed that this was just an imperfection. Then, out of curiosity, I did a quick google search and...same markings in the same exact spots. Is this another subtle detail that Rolex uses to spot a real from a fake? Curious to hear your thoughts. (Apologies if this has been discussed before, or is common knowledge that I've somehow missed.) Pics below. The first is of my watch, second is zoomed in, and third is the photo I found online. Those dots are present on the clasp of my Day Date also.
I would suppose it is not unreasonable to think that many of the small details Rolex builds into their watches are in some way “anti-counterfeit” measures. Would this particular detail be something difficult to accurately replicate? Probably not, so would it more likely be a case of it being something Rolex hopes less diligent counterfeiters overlook? Surely that sort of thing would only last for so long before “word got around”. Clearly I don’t know much about anti-counterfeit measures... |

This is very interesting to me. I have the same dots in the same location on my 2015 116610Sub. I’ve kind of wondered the same thing, though, whether there are “secret” markings on cases, bracelets, or movements that only certain people know about. Granted, I’m not sure how such markings could be kept secret, but it’s an interesting idea and it wouldn’t surprise me if it was the case.

Interesting! I have the same two dots on my SS DJ36 with Oyster bracelet.
