Oh soooo true. I bought my first MB FP this week via TRF... I had to have the discussion with the wife that a pen isnt just a pen.

"If you appreciate one fine thing, likely, you'll learn to appreciate other fine things." so true in my book.

I think that's indeed, very very true. I'm sure and certain that it is true with me.

So...

What fine things is it that we men appreciate?

I know that for me it's...

A good straight-razor.
Good, classic clothes.
Good watches.
Fountain pens.
Food.
Music.
Man-jewellery (cufflinks, rings, etc). None of that gangsta gold bling stuff.

I have always wanted to start shaving with a straight razor, it just seems that upkeep may outweigh the amount of time I actually have these days.

I too have always enjoyed the finer things in life but procuring the necessary capital is the only limiting factor.....I am a collector at heart and find it very hard to part with any of my belongings(toys)!!!

Upkeep isn't that much. Honing and stropping only takes about ten minutes once you've got the hang of it.

Another option is a Feather brand straight razor. They use replaceable blades so no stropping/honing. (I like the "professional super" blades)
Not exactly the same, but a better option if time is a concern while still getting that 'straight razor shave'.
