JLC reverso or Rolex Day Date?

Ok folks, I've been collecting subs for the past year and I have three in my collection: a very sharp 1961 gilt pcg Tudor sub on a leather band with Rolex SS buckle, a 1964 non chapter ring gilt 5512 on a 1966 rivet and a NOS 1680 with lightly patinad lumes.

I'm thinking of a watch that I could wear for very formal occasions so I'm torn between a WG silver dial DayDate or a JLC reverso.

Any reverso owners on the forum? The rectangular case is intriguing, and while I don't care for the Arabic dial, I like the dark dial with markers.
I don't like sapphire crystals on modern reversos.

On the other hand a plastic 1803 in WG silver pie pan is a great watch too.

I own both, and if I had to choose........Day-Date 7 days a week, and twice on Sunday.

Ok! That's pretty convincing to me...Rolex holds a special place in my heart too. So why stray right??

Cheers!

The Reverso is a classic dress watch but it is hard beat the durability and value of a President. I'd go DD myself.

I am biased, never liked JLC, so DD for sure.

I was just looking at the Reverso's in Vegas, but the President is hard to beat for a classic classy watch and would be my choice.

I'd have to go Day Date for sure. Reverso's are nice but they can't beat a DD.

It seems I might be the only JLC fan here.

Dont get me wrong, love the DD and I will own one one day, but the Reverso is iconic.

Ever since I saw Pearce Brosnan in the movie the Thomas Crown Affair 'flipping' one during his dinner with Renee Russo I had to have one!

I'll be your wingman, Alex. I prefer a Reverso for formal occasions.

That is a tough one. The Reverso is a bit more low-key but the DD is just
plain cool.

I have a couple of (sports) Rolexes, but my next watch will be a Reverso ultra-thin for more formal occasions. It's much more refined than a Rolex in my view.

Day-date hands down

And this is coming from a big JLC fan!

I am also in the hunt for a WG Day-date.

Ultimately, you can't really go wrong with either choice.

The Reverso is very nice if you like squared off watches (which I do not, particularly).

But I would go with the DD. I have YG DD and love it.

For the price of a DD, have you considered a PP Nautilus or Calatrava? Or a Breguet? Or a Lange? They're in the same price range, and there are some truely beautiful dress watches from those brands.

The DD is so much more versatile than the JLC IMO.. Easy to dress up or down with.

DD. I consider the Reverso a real classic (of course, the DD is too), and a great addition to any watch collection. I'm also not much of a DD on bracelet fan-- an awful lot of gold, IMO-- but I'd still pick the DD.

A DD is a true Rolex, tough, stylish, easy to service, can do almost anything a Sub can, and looks classic on a strap.

Yes it's the US Edition of the Tribute To Reverso but not a LE, just limited production of 100/year. There's another 100 for 2012. There's also the regular production Ultrathin Reverso. The Reverso dresses up/down better than one would think.

As you already have wonderful vintage Subs and your are looking for truly formal occasions, I would lean to the Reverso.

If you were going for one watch to wear with everything you couldn't do much better than the DD. But you already have daily wear covered with lively Subs. For formal the Reverso is simply classic.

The JLC Reverso was the first watch I truly desired - so much so that I purchased one on a 1997 Caribbean cruise at the St. Thomas AD (Columbian Jewellers who are no longer there). It is a true original classic art deco design that is still in production.

Unfortunately, my poor JLC Reverso lies in my watch box largely unworn as my interest has shifted to Rolex. It also requires servicing (the 1st one!) and is on my priority list for this.

I would not purchase another Reverso, as I am more interested in the Rolex DD. But, than again, I could change my mind if ...............
