Is nobody following this Tudor 7923?

So freaking rare it's almost mythical. I never thought I would see a real one in my lifetime.

I recall that when the auction was happening there was a good following here and on other forum.

I wonder how many "hopeful" bidders there were with their finger on the button during those last couple of minutes who found out the hard way about that upper bidding limit on ebay. What a shock it must have been to someone with a $125K bid all set up in the last seconds only to have that screen appear. For some strange reason that I can't explain it never happened to me.

You think the new seller might leak the asking price to the rolexforums?

Amazing indeed. I'm watching the drama unfold to see who this piece of history ends up with. What an amazing article and set of pictures HQ has provided.

Somehow I missed the discussions about this when the auction was active. Either way it is an amazing piece. It will definitely be interesting to see how the sale unfolds and who ends up with it in their collection.

I wonder how much the original vendor ( the estate ) received when they sold this watch?

I followed it about 2 hours after it was listed. Min bid $3500. I contacted the seller for a. By it now. No dice. I thought it was a $10-15k watch. $100k is nuts. $350k is crack pipe to me. However I can think of Canadian fine art for 350k that is gorgeous and others that are poor. So I guess it is worth what you can get for it

A manual wind Tudor divers watch does nothing for me. I know it will fit into subodys vertical and horizontal collection. I can think of a 100 watches I'd rather wear though.

I wonder if after setting at the $99,999 mark for a while the seller didn't wonder if something was wrong with the bidding process? Didn't the bidding get there within the first day or two?

It would seem that there could be some mechanism in place with ebay that the same notice one would get if trying to bid beyond that mark would automatically be posted to the auction in question. There would have been ample time for any interested bidders to make application for the permissions.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that HQ got it and whatever profit he makes is fine with me but I would say that there is a possibility that proper notification to all potential bidders could have put a lot more money into the pocket of the seller.

I still wonder the liability of the estate sale seller. I know that in some states there is a liability on the part of a company that performs this service.

x2. I've made some excessive watch purchases through the years, but $350K for this Tudor is nuts, IMHO. I'd rather buy a nice vacation home in Florida for that money.

Somehow I think the eventual owner of this watch won't be vacationing in Florida.

I hope not.

I'd venture a guess that it will likely sell for under the asking price anyway.

Probably won't get a lot of hits on VRBO to rent the Tudor.

It's a unicorn. I get it. But if they get 3.5x what was paid for it a few months earlier I would eat my hat. Worth more than $100k to a lot of people I bet, but $350k??? The mention the black bay from the only watch auction. Did that money not go to charity?? This purchase from HQ won't generate a big tax deduction for someone and that makes a difference in a charity auction.

It's super rare and important in stunning condition. It will sell eventually as you can't really put a market price on these kind of objects. Well done Jacek!

Really cool watch. I guess this is a must have for the ultimate Rolex/Tudor collector, but 350k can buy you a small collection of absolutely killer watches.

I'm sure the future buyer already has a collection of killer watches. :)

And let's remember how everybody thought it was a fake and was laughing at the seller when the listing was posted on Ebay. That must be a hard hit for him!

Of course. That's why I said that this watch is for the ultimate collector (i.e., somebody who has it all), not some lowly peon like me.
