What's your best watch?

I'm curious to learn what people really love. So here's my question: what is your singular favorite watch from your collection (if you have more than one watch) and why.

I'm lucky enough to have 2 Nautilus, Platona, and Meteorite GMT to name a few.

But my absolute favorite is my Lange Zeitwerk. The simple one with 36-hour power reserve, white gold, black dial, not the new honey gold iteration. I am just fascinated that there is so much going on 'behind the scenes' for this digital readout of time only.

There is a perfect simplicity on the surface that belies the complication that lies below.

In fact, the 'upgrades' to the latest iteration start to betray the simplicity of time only with the extra pushers to adjust the time so for me, that's a downgrade for the increase in power reserve to 72 hours. If those time pushers were flush with the case that would be a different story.

This one's easy. It's the watch in my avatar. It was a gift from my parents when I graduated high school. Of all my possessions, this is the one that means that most. If I ever lost it, it would truly break my heart.

Its a tough question. I'm always saying I gravity toward divers and yet, my favourite watch at the moment, is the 321 from Omega.

Its definitely not for everyone, but for me it's got everything I'd ever want in a chronograph.

My 114270 is both my first Rolex and the only watch that I have truly fallen in love with and at first sight no less.

I'd never even heard of it, actually, but as soon as I put it on my wrist, there was no doubt in my mind that I would be taking it home.

Even after fourteen years, My heart still jumps a little when I put it on.

I guess this one is my best (as per your thread title). Runs about +1 second a year, movement is hand assembled and finished by two people, quartz crystal grown in-house and hand selected for purity, dial and hands are beautifully finished, bracelet is the most comfortable I own, tells me the day and date, 100m WR, and it probably won't need a service during my lifetime.

Bought on impulse in Hiroshima in early 2018, on a great trip with the wife, and worn most days since, so also a favourite.

Wow! Tough question.

I can’t say but the one I wear most might just be my subconscious choice by default.

I have watches with better movements and better finishing but at the end of the day this is likely my favorite. Great accuracy, legibility, lume, WR, comfortable and I really like the red. Just an old school tool watch.

I don't have a single favorite. I have a bunch of favorites. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Sometimes I think it's a good thing because I put a lot of time and effort into "the hunt" for quite a few pieces and it's nice to feel that that wasn't a waste.

On the other hand, if I did have a single favorite, maybe I could sell everything else and not have to send pieces in for servicing so often.

But your comment about the Zeitwerk really resonated (no pun intended)! I know exactly what you mean, and I feel the same way about the old movement (though the longer power reserve and the quick-change hour pusher are nice upgrades).

My c.2000 16710 GMT II is my favorite and likely my best. I fitted it with an aftermarket ceramic BLRO bezel insert because the anodized aluminum inserts scratch, fade, and dent too easily, and I like the better legibility of the larger debossed font. The 3185 movement is bulletproof, and I refer to GMT several times a day for logging radio transmissions and doing flight planning. I can easily change inserts for different looks.

But “best”? Well, my best one is still at large in the underworld five years after a burglary. Or maybe on the wrist of an unsuspecting buyer. Hope to one day get the call from RSC that they’ve seized it.

Probably not my best, but, unexpectedly, the two-tone SkyDweller is my favorite. It's bigger than I usually prefer, it's on an Oyster bracelet (I prefer jubilee), but, every time I put it on, it's like the first day I bought it again.

My “best” watch? My 126660 JC. My first Rolex, my first true grail watch I managed to get. Also happens to be the most capable watch I own as far as water resistance and overall engineering. When it launched in 2014 it was a pipe dream, but I have been fortunate enough to own one now!

The one watch I’ll never part with? A Tag Heuer Formula One alarm my wife bought me for our first anniversary. We were broke kids then and spending $1k on a watch then was a bigger sacrifice than buying a Rolex now. It’s a reminder of not only how far we’ve come together but the fact she’s always believed in me and sacrificed for me.
