A Question for Timepiece lovers: Why do you like luxury watches?

I'll start with my reason, I see them as something valuable, the passion that goes into making these timepieces and the complex beauty that it shows, also some timepieces having it's history.

Art, science, math, micromechanics... and at times stretching the 'limits' of what's humanly possible. Frankly, I'm amazed at the accuracy we've achieved mechanically when you consider the 'many' moving parts. At +/-3 sec/day, it is 99.996% accurate. C'mon, how can you not be impressed with something that accurate under the rigors of daily wear.

Accuracy aside, some timepieces are FUNctional handcrafted art in its' many forms.

I don't love luxury timepieces. I love timepieces...some happen to cost more than others.

I like the look, feel and physical presence of watches. The measure of time has always fascinated me. It is almost a reverse hourglass, watching the time in my life as I move closer to the end.

I’ll say I agree with many of the thoughts here but for me I generally have one brand in each product category that always appeals to me for one reason or another… not just watches…

Me too. If I carry it every day, it might as well be nice. I have a nice leather bag, pen, wallet, couple pair of shoes. Nothing too fancy, just quality.

To show & remind myself that I've done well for myself, and to let others know about it.

There, I said it.

Many right answers but most importantly;

To feel good about myself and boost my self confidence.

To reiterate to that I've done well for myself.

And why not? It's such a beauty.

I've loved watches since I was very young. I was in 2nd grade when I fell in love with watches - specifically, my father's digital watch.

I was a young teenager when I first heard Ric Flair talk about Rolex watches and, when I learned a little more about them, having a Rolex became my goal.

As I got older and had access to more money, just as my tastes in cars elevated and my taste in wines elevated, my tastes in watches elevated.

So, that's a really long way of saying that I simply love watches and I'm blessed to be able to afford luxury watches.

Nothing to do with luxury, fashion and certainly nothing to do with my self esteem or self image.

Imagine creating a machine that tracks the passage of time in an easy to understand manner. That would be a feat that deserves to be appreciated.
Imagine that machine is manufactured to such tolerances that it does so accurately and repeatedly without exhaustive care. Impressive.
Imagine that accurate, mechanical machine reduced in size to be carried on one's person.
Imagine that machine so robust that it can be worn reliably at the end of one's arm, where the motion is greatest, in all manner of positions, subjected to shock and environments generally thought unfavorable to most precision capable machines.
Break it down to those basics and it becomes pretty amazing that anyone has one of these marvels let alone several and then revel in the knowledge that this wonder machine is widely available by many different makers of various perceived qualities.
My small collection is diverse with only one Rolex but when they're all interesting to me for some reason or another.
That's why I love watches.
