Tommy Lasorda dead at 93

Former Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda has died at the age of 93, the team announced. He suffered a sudden cardiopulmonary arrest at his home Thursday night and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Rest In Peace

It was in extra innings in game 4 of the 1988 NLCS. The Dodgers had just taken a 1 run lead and Jesse Orosco had come on in the bottom of the 12th. He walked the first batter he faced, then threw ball one to the second. At that, Lasorda called time. Apparently the Dodgers manager wanted to speak some words of encouragement to his struggling pitcher. When he got there, the camera made it very easy to read Tommy's lips. It also may have been the shortest mound visit in history, as Tommy uttered just four words, then quickly turned and headed back to the dugout.

The first two words were 'Throw a', and the last word was 'strike'.

Still makes me laugh when I think about it.

RIP Tommy, and give my best to the Big Dodger in the Sky.

Never a Dodger fan. But I admire his dedication to the organization. Like Cal Ripken with the Orioles. I also liked how he was so pro-police when I was a cop.

Rest in Peace Tommy.

Absolutely despised the guy as a manager when growing up as an ignorant kid. Realized when I grew up it’s the spices in life that makes the dish.

Godspeed Tommy and thanks for your passion. I wasn’t about your team...but now I realize what it’s about. RIP.

My favorite Lasorda quote: There are three kinds of people. People who make things happen, people who watch things happen and people who wonder what happened.

RIP Tommy.

Had the pleasure of seeing him speak at a City of Hope survivor event, truly a motivating and extraordinary speaker.
