I have no high horology, nor holy trinity watches, so “best” is irrelevant in that perspective. There is no favorite to speak of, and I appreciate the accomplishment of owning each …………………. but one of them brings back a special memory of a cherished past.
The year is 1969, on a farm in the hills of Virginia, a small black and white television, that crackled and popped continuously, with one channel from an antenna on top of the hill. While another channel was available, someone had to walk up the hill and turn the antenna with a stick. Every evening on the nightly news there was an update of the Apollo Mission progress. The words rocket, trajectory, orbit, landing, moonwalk, astronauts, were a constant, and other worldly to a seven year old that probably just finished some farm chores with his dad. Finally that day came, Apollo landing ! The grainy images, broken radio chatter, jumping off the ladder, steps on the moon ……………………. all mesmerizing ! When school started back in the fall, basketball goals were rolled out of the way, and the cafeteria table/chairs were folded down by teachers and students. The door opens, a TV cart rolls in, and everybody watches in total silence, some for the first time, as men actually walk on the moon. Forty years later, when I developed an interest in “significant” watches and their history, the Speedmaster Professional was the first, all because of that fuzzy black and white television, fearless men, and world they revealed. I know, TLDR silly story …………..

I have always loved the Speedmaster, but ended up selling all the ones that I have owned. So when I saw this Speedmaster styled Huguenin Freres Chronograph I was drawn to it.
I like the fact that no matter where I go or who I may run into nobody will be wearing one like it. Also, any watch store or event I attend it is a conversation starter due to its uniqueness. Whenever I put it on it just makes my eyes light up … So for that reason it has stuck around after so many have come and gone.

No fair using the cross screen filter to make your watch look so good while the rest of us just took a snapshot.

I stated my favorite watch earlier but this PF is my “best” watch, if that’s to mean most impressive. The UN Freak X a close second

For me the best watch is my Ulysse Nardin Blue Surf. If I will have to have only one watch this UN will me on my wrist every day. |

I was actually marveling at that tonight. You’d think poor as there’s no lume. However, I was out earlier tonight walking the dog in a wooded area without any lights. Looked to check the time and the moon hit the highly polished hands causing them to reflect more than enough to read the time. I was shocked how easily it reflects a small amount of light. So I’d say the legibility is far better than most watches lacking lume, and even more than some with lume, day and night (I’m talking to you Daytona). |
