Do they know?

Does your partner know what you paid for your watch? The real price that is. Do you keep them informed of changing values up/down?

Just curious

Mine does and I’ve yet to discover, luckily, how much is too much to pay for a watch.

My muse / wife is an enabler, she knows.

Heck, at first i turned down the Omega ltd. Ed. 50th Buzz Butt that Nick from Mayors Tampa offered. My muse / wife took one look at pics and kinda sorta yelled-ish at me asking why would i turn down a timepiece that obviously adds to my geek love of space exploration.

So... yes she knows, and is an enabler :)

Absotutely not. She would run the credit card bill up so high that I would have no alternative but to sell. Maybe take out a 2nd mortgage.

Haha - I am in a very similar position. When I love the watch, but question whether I really need it / should spend X, my wife is always on the side of “yes”.

My wife paid the deposit on my next watch. Sure, I had to reciprocate but she’s a co-conspirator as far as watch buying goes.

I haven't seen that watch before, but I agree with your wife, it is stunning. So is the photography.

My wife knows. She now has some interest in watches, can name models/references, knows prices and encourages me to buy. I took that similar interest in her bags/shoes/clothes. It works out well for us.

It’s OK as long as she gets equal value jewelry.

In general, yes but we don't get into specifics. Once a year she (I married an accoutant) updates our financial records and asks how much my guns and watches are worth. I say its about 35 grand, she says Holy Crap!!...and Im good for another year.

Our system is simple...most money including salary goes in the joint account but my car allowance from work and dividends from stock I own in a small bank in my childhood home go to my "private" account. If I stay within that, its "pre-approved". If it's time to buy a car or something I try to time it with my annual bonus and just get the OK to pull it to my account instead of the joint account.

We spend about an hour a year total talking about money...I hate every minute.

We are in a very lucky position, each have personal bank accounts, with a joint bank a/c we use for all household bills which we both pay a generous fixed amount into. Its generous because this pays for the holidays we take together together. The remainder of our money we can do what we want with, I usually ( not this season for obvious reasons) have a couple of weeks skiing, and a few days away cycling with my mates, she goes away with her friends, and as she's into painting/ drawing, sculpture, she is often away on workshops seminars. It works well and has done for 30 odd years, so if I make a new purchase, she is the first to see it, but never ever asks how much it was. Ask no questions, get told no lies!

Of course. However, when I buy one for me, I usually buy one for her. She's not really a watch person but now has a nice collection nonetheless.

TLDR: Yep she was...

From the beginning - in fact she gifted other brands that were her choices before I discovered Rolex. I recall a Gucci dress model tank super thin (yeah Quartz).

She had already owned a gold ladies Omega before I met her. I also had been gifted a men’s model by my parents as a graduation gift.

But once the Rolex bug got me (an Expl.II Polar), she came right on board and chose a petit OP and then went for adding a Diamond Bezel. She never warmed up to a cyclops (“that stupid bump” )

Before I started trading regularly she also added a daytime white dialed OP.
She also tracked deals along the way and noticed I was able to buy, hold & wear for a while, and then make a little gain when I flipped.

After retiring and my racing days waned, she saw it as just another slightly strange hobby...

I just have this advice - be transparent.
You’ll never be sorry...
