Any Other Hams? N8ZTE CQ CQ CQ
So, I earned my novice license at approximately the age of 16 in 1978.
At the time, I had a National NC173 receiver, and a Heathkit HW16 transceiver. Mainly, I listened to international broadcast stations, in awe. I didn't do much with it, and let my license lapse. Roughly 1992, I re-earned a technician license. Morse was ALWAYS my nemesis... I just don't hear it! So in 35+ licensed years, I've probably had less than sixty minutes on the air. As a police officer, I absolutely wear out my APX6000 Motorola when on duty. I'm interested in getting "back into" amateur radio. I'm a Mac/iPhone/iPad user, and I find the APRS/digital stuff interesting. I don't even know how to ask what I'm asking. I think I'm interested in the following: 1 - Recommendation of an EXCELLENT all-band receiver, I would like to rediscover the magic of "tuning in the world". Maybe SDR, if it works with Mac OS/iOS. 2 - Recommendation of a TNC/radio combo to explore APRS. Really I don't know what I don't know, curious to hear what you are doing and with what equipment. |
