NFL playoffs on Nickelodeon...

Can’t say I am a big fan of the traditional networks airing the NFL games, especially the announcers, but to now be watching the Bears - Saints game on Nickelodeon is a new low for the NFL.

Why is it a low? They have a broadcast contract coming up and Nickelodeon obviously was willing to pay for the rights to show a playoff game. (It is also being shown on CBS). They recently had a game shown exclusively on Amazon Prime as well.

I don't see the issue with broadcast networks showing games either.

I don’t have a problem per se’, but it seems weird and out of touch, especially since Nick has lost 60% of viewership over last 10yrs....I mean do kids even watch it or just spend time playing video games and watch tic toc.

Maybe a kid's view of sports is what they see as means to boost viewership. I don't know, but again, I don't see the harm in them tying themselves to the most popular broadcast content (NFL).

I’ve actually had a decent amount of conversation with friends about this.

My hypothesis is that someone up the corporate food chain has a new strategy of how to invest in the nickelodeon brand. For whatever reason the NFL playoff game is part of that

It’s a Viacom (majority) owned channel.

The real question is why. Invest and grow long-term or invest and fluff up short-term. What specific opportunity could this lead to. I find it interesting to think about

Nickelodeon hasn’t been doing well as a brand and channel so it’s ripe for this kind of thing

Is it only on Nickelodeon for you? I’m watching it on regular CBS.

It was on both channels. We actually enjoyed it and felt it was defiantly going after a younger crowd to get them involved so the NFL doesn’t die and continuing to get even a younger group to start watching and liking football.

It was brilliant. They explained the penalties for newbies. The play by play was still good as they had an ex NFL player doing most of it.

The live f-bomb and graphics were great. I didn't get a chance to watch it live but saw some of the highlights. Good stuff.

You could have watched it on CBS. It was obviously targeting the younger demographic and seemed pretty helpful explaining the rules of football. Unfortunately, it was a bad football game. I stuck with the Nick broadcast and as a male in my 30s, I found it hilarious.
