Burberry Trench Coat

I’m interested in exploring vintage Burberry trench coats - any recommendations for online shopping? I’ve casually searched the common places like eBay and Poshmark, but it is a bit overwhelming to be honest, and I’m not an expert to judge authenticity.

I may end up just buying a new modern one, but I do like the idea of getting the true classic style for a fraction of the cost of new ($100-$400 vs. $2,600).

I love the classic honey/beige color double breasted in a medium or long length… timeless, like our watches.

Is there any Burberry outlets in the states? I take it you are across the pond, as you mentioned the cost in dollars.

If you are coming over to the UK anytime soon. We have a Burberry Outlet in Bicester village (near Oxford), they have some great deals sometimes. Lovely jumpers (sweatshirt) and a good selection of trench coats. Bicester Village is VERY VERY popular with tourists.

I’ve always heard about the Burberry outlet in Hackney, London as well. I haven’t been personally but it would be worth a look. Just remember to wear a g shock or something around “the ends”.

Cheers

That’s a good call, I didn’t think about the outlet route! I am in the states, but no outlets near me. I’ll do some searching - thanks for the suggestion.

Not directly related, but I got a Burberry trench coat in the late '80s early on in my career and then a wool overcoat sometime in the '90s. I hardly wear them anymore since I don't usually wear a suit and aren't in winter climates, but they absolutely look exactly like the day I got them. They will last forever.

I love the “buy once and buy right” mantra. Does yours have the detachable insert for colder weather?

Depending on your anticipated amount of use, I would be inclined to buy new. You never know what you are getting when you buy clothing vintage or from "grey market" dealers.

Yeah. My trench coat is an olive color that was from Neiman Marcus. Maybe a dark khaki. It has a lining and I got a cashmere scarf that matches it. I honestly haven’t worn it 3 times in the last ten years. The wool one is a traditional navy.

What a classic. Never go out of fashion that.

In 2022 I bought my wife a Kensington trench, new from the retailer. Steep, steep price of $2,599 plus tax, but it’s been her go-to work travel jacket. She’s not into luxury brands in the slightest, but this is her one exception. Personally I was impressed by the quality. Hopefully she will get a lifetime of mileage out of it, as her career is still in it’s infancy.

I would go to a Burberry store and find the right model, color and size. I would then get on the phone with the outlet in the UK and see what they can do for you.
