Okay, you've just defined "luxury." So it does mean something to you.

Fair point but I don’t wear them because they are “luxury” rather because I appreciate the quality, durability, and precision vs other products. In other words, it’s not about the hype or status but about how they are developed, constructed, and how they perform their intended function.

I see them as men’s jewelry but not in a flashy way more like a mandatory accessory for men’s depending how you dress.
It is about the watch who speaks for the owner.
I Never looked at them as investments

I first got into nice watches as a youngster because I have extremely sensitive hearing and the ticking of a quartz watch bothered me. Then I tried a couple lower priced mechanicals, but they didn’t keep great time.

So my answer is that, initially, I just wanted to know what time it was without a ticking sound driving me crazy.

Down the road, the reasons changed, and today I just wear them for me. Teen tik tokkers and YouTubers, First year lawyers with $300K in debt, and 23 year old banking analysts who just got their first bonus are buying more expensive watches than me these days anyway

Imagine that accurate, mechanical machine reduced in size to be carried on one's person.
Imagine that machine so robust that it can be worn reliably at the end of one's arm, where the motion is greatest, in all manner of positions, subjected to shock and environments generally thought unfavorable to most precision capable machines.
Break it down to those basics and it becomes pretty amazing that anyone has one of these marvels let alone several and then revel in the knowledge that this wonder machine is widely available by many different makers of various perceived qualities.
My small collection is diverse with only one Rolex but when they're all interesting to me for some reason or another.
That's why I love watches.

Very well said!

Me too. If I carry it every day, it might as well be nice. I have a nice leather bag, pen, wallet, couple pair of shoes. Nothing too fancy, just quality.

Not really about the watch, I like to buy movements and the watch is a bonus, how they tick away for decades fascinates me.

I think it's about a fantastic little machine that is also functional.

It's almost a machine with soul. A digital watch has no soul.

It's like putting together an engine that actually comes alive.

And the nicer it is (luxury), the more rare it is, the more I'm inclined to want it.

May I humbly add to my earlier post as had to set up the photo stuff....

Because they're fun to photograph.
