Trip to Amsterdam

Hi everyone,

Planning a trip to Amsterdam and London in a couple of months. Never been to Amsterdam and was wondering what's a good place/hotel to stay in would be. Budget is anything under $500 a night. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a ton!

We stayed at the Pestana Riverside in Amsterdam recently before a Viking river cruise. It’s close to the museums. I think it’s way under $500 a night and the breakfast was fabulous. And I think that was included in the price. It’s also very close to trains and trams, and you take it to downtown if you wanted to and they ran every five or eight minutes.
I looked in early march and nightly rate including breakfast was under 300.

I stayed at the Schiphol Hyatt in the airport. It was fine for a few days and easy access to the train station into the city. The convenance factor was nice.

Amsterdam is an amazing city but I would definitely recommend staying in the centrum! You will get more enjoyment from the city. I am not really into art museums but the Van Gogh was great. Last time I was there we rented a canal front condo in canal house and enjoyed that much better than a hotel. We felt more like a local in our own place.

I’ve stayed at Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, it was a good location. Walking distance to museums, train station and Red light district.

We stayed at the Hotel Ambassade. Get a room with a window on the canal. Great location, easy walk to many great sights, cannot recommend it highly enough. Looked it up for January, about $200/night, which I find shockingly low. Combo of offseason, covid travel light, strong dollar.

Amsterdam is a terrific place to visit, highly underrated. Enjoy it!

I had a lot of fun in Amsterdam back in ‘90 and 2021. Don’t remember a lot except the Coffee shops 😂

Here’s another strong vote for the Hotel Ambassade. The breakfasts there were among the best that I’ve ever had and the lounge was just perfect for a quiet after dinner drink. It’s in the core, very walkable, and the service was exceptional. Here’s a picture of a portion of the lounge…all the books behind glass were first editions to peruse.

Exceptional restaurant if you make a reservation in advance.

Thanks a ton for the replies, everyone! Unfortunately Hotel Ambassade is only available for two nights and we're there for five.

We stayed at The Alfred : https://www.thealfredhotel.com/

Great location, plenty to see and do within walking distance. We were fortunate enough to bring in the new year there, they Really like fireworks:)
Have fun

The Krasnapolsky Hotel has the perfect location, on the Dam Square. Everything is in walking distance. Don't know if the $500 p/n is obtainable though.

It was around that price range. However, I booked this place called Eden Hotel. Looks to be in a good location and Hotel looks nice as well. Cost me around $300 a night. Hopefully it's a good hotel.

Another question. Gonna be in London in April for 5 nights as well. Any suggestions on hotels there? Budget is $400 a night.
